OK. I've created a database that will hopefully house all the pertinent info in an effort for others to view and use as evidence when confronting their dealers. NOTE: this will be for those who have already experienced a diff mount crack event. Those who might be interested in keeping a tab on the situation can view the webpage (not created yet).

You can email me your info at the following address: crackeddiffmount@digitalsimple.com

This is the rough draft. If anyone has any ideas on what additional field you think I should capture, please email your ideas to the address above

Here's what I will need (real names will be hidden on the webpage):

1. UserName: - your user name at the various BMW community boards
2. RealFirst: - your real first name (not shown on web)
3. RealMI: - your real middle initial (not shown on web)
4. RealLast: - your real last name (not shown on web)
5. City - your home city
6. State - your home state
7. email 1 - primary email (not shown on web)
8. email 2 - secondary email -your discretion-
9. Dealer Name
10. Dealer City
11. Dealer State
12. Z3 Model - i.e.1.9 Z3
13. Year
14. Mileage - at time of info submittal
15. Date of Production - i.e. 01/00
16. Mileage at Failure
17. Tracked (Y/N)
18. No of Events
19. Web Address / Pic - url of your pictures or story
20. Solution? - i.e. Dealer fixed by welding ; independent shop welded
21. Solution cost estimate

The dB is not active yet. I want to get some ideas from others. This info is not for my gain; I have no intentions of doing anything with it except sharing it with those you want to use it to help their cause. If anyone has any idea about legal ramifications that I should me made aware of, please shoot those my way too

Sounds like a good idea ///MDex. I don't think there would be anything illegal about it, but I'm no legal expert by any stretch.

Let me know when you get something going. In the meantime, maybe we can make a "sticky" thread about this?

The thing that I find weird is that the "stress crack" that people have posted about does not seem to follow any pattern as to why, I have read post about a 2.3 model with them and then there are guys that are tracking them big time and have no problems
as I have no knowledge about this area, Im starting to think it is rough road related since from what I can see that is where the diff mount is to take up any rough road impact and not tracking or hard shifting, I would think that if it was related to hard shifting or hard acceleration that all the track guys be be affected but they are not
Im not saying that I could have not been built stronger just speculating

That is precisely why I want to create a collection of data for this issue. Hopefully, by looking at all the data paoints from a larger perspective, we can draw some conclusions, and maybe a resolution.

dB is ready for info.

Not much show of interest, but I'll capture the info if people send it to me :)

Sounds like popping the clutch at a red light. Don't know anything else that would do that.

But then, why is it that some people with Z who tracke them, have so issues? I don't know either Bob

Tracking has no hard starts. We don't do standing starts, even in races in teh US (most of the time).

Autocross does have hard starts. Drag racig has hard starts. Street racing has hard starts.

The question is whether people have been doing, or trying to do burnouts and similar.
