Hey I need to install tires on my rims. I'm in the Whitestone, Flushing Bayside area (NY). Can anyone recommend a place that will not destroy my rims?
Thanks,
jt

Hey I need to install tires on my rims. I'm in the Whitestone, Flushing Bayside area (NY). Can anyone recommend a place that will not destroy my rims?I've used BMW of Bayside for mount + balance service, but that was a BMW tire on a BMW rim, both bought there. Couldn't hurt to ask, though.
When I buy whole sets of new tires, I have 'em mounted and balanced at Wheel Collision in Pennsylvania (just over the border from NJ).
You could also check the Tire Rack (http://www.tirerack.com) web site for their approved installers in your area.

jt, I live in Manhasset and just got new tires installed at Parts & Polish. This place is in Great Neck on Northern Bulvd. They did an outstanding job! Very careful and not a scratch on my rims. I know this is a little far from you but it may be worth the trip. Also, they ballanced and mounted all 4 tires in about 45 minutes. I went during the day when people are usually at work so I guess they were free. If you want to go, just call and speak to Dennis and ask him when the best time to come in. He's a very nice guy. Good luck.

Discount Tire generally does a good job, if you have one in the area.

Is the Wheel Collision you mentioned above the same place that sells refurbished BMW wheels? This place? http://www.wheelcollision.com/ They seem to have some pretty good deals on wheels. I am curious if you have seen any of their work and like to know your opinion. Thanks.

I am curious if you have seen any of their work and like to know your opinion.I originally went there to have a damaged Type 73 wheel straightened and re-painted. It was indistinguishable from new on the outside when done (the inside had a couple clamp marks from their machine, which were painted over when they re-painted the wheel).
Later, I purchased a set of 5 wheels and had 5 snows mounted. 4 of the wheels were perfect, and one had some visible irregularities on the spokes (dimples). Apparently, if you buy 5 wheels the discount for the 5th wheel gets you a wheel like this, since they assume you'll use it as a spare. All the wheels are wobble-free.
They offer a lifetime guarantee on all of their work and used wheels. In addition to repaired wheels, they have some take-offs (nearly new, undamaged) ones for sale. And they accept trade-ins on both good and damaged wheels.
Definitely recommended.

Thanks for the info  . I am definitely going to look into them for another set of wheels. I looked at their web site and the prices seem to be very fair. I feel better about them knowing that someone here has some first hand knowledge of their products and workmanship. Thanks again.
i certainly would.

Hi, I'm so sorry, I haven't checked this tread in a long time. Best tire: They are very large and do incredible business. I personally don't like the attitude over there. It's rushed and I just get a negitive feeling. Even though I have not delbt with them first hand, a good friend has and he had a misserable experience. They didn't use the correct bushings or something on rims he got installed and it almost killed him on the highway. I think that because they are so over worked, they might be slighly careless. Just my thought. I hope this helps. Write back if you have anymore questions. It's nice to see a fellow long islander! But i don't know your name..
