Help ASAP plsssss.

SO my battery died in my 97 E39. I took the battery out went to get it tested, got a new battery. Came back and the truck is closed. I cannot open it with my keys or with the buttons. ANyway I can get the trunk open? I was trying to look through the ski bag hole to find a emergency trunk release but didnt have any luck locating it. Cant find it in the manual either. Help plssssss

Turn the key farther than you think you normally do. There is a manual unlock point past the normal turn to point.

Ok i turned it really hard and it opened. but my key is bent. I guess there was some sand that jammed it.

Right below the Roundel on the trunk lid (above the license plate) there is a hand switch. The E39 is famous for swallowing the front side of the rubber seal which seems to block the manual hand release. Get a thin bladed screwdriver and retrieve (which will reseat) the rubber that slipped through the hole. The manual switch should be good for at least one trunk opening before it slips back into the hole again. Good luck.
