In preparing my wheels to swap back to the summer setup, it is very apparent that the rear tires will need to be replaced soon (~3000 miles) but the fronts have a ton more life in them. I do not wish to continue using the 040s so.......

What would be a good replacement, keeping in mind that I will be mixing treads until the fronts wear out :dunno: I was considering a move "v" like pattern ala the new Goodyears but am leary of doing so.

Recommendations or thoughts much appreciated

When I first got the M3 it had pilot sports all around. They were the best tire I've ever tried. Since then I had to replace the rears, and went with P-zero Neros. I'm not thrilled with them at all. They have absolutely no grip when cold, and even with a staggered setup break away long before the fronts. My rec would be to check out the new Pilot Sports 2 (or whatever their official name is). Everything I've read is they are everything the original Pilot Sports were and more. That can't be bad in my book.

RE040s. You'll wear through them by the time you need new fronts. DOn't mix, it just leads to unhappiness.

Otherwise, go with the PS2s. They're supposed to be everything the Pilot SX MXX3 was and more. The Pilot Sport was a much worse tire than its predecessor.

I replaced my rears @ 9,000 miles with S-03s. The car understeered a lot as a result. If you hit a pothole as I did, you can then replace your fronts a bit earlier than planned (my fronts had about 18k on them and maybe 5/32nds remaining tread when one was done in by a pothole).

I'm with Nick on this one. Avoid mixing if at all possible. We've had many reports of unsusual handling and feel when mixing on these cars.

I agree to NOT mix tires on a vehicle. Get 4 new ones, sell the better ones here or an eBay to someone who can use them as rears to match the ones they used up. :)
