Hi all,
I have a '02 325i with 27,000 miles. The Check Brake pads light just came on today. Can you guys tell me what it may be? Is it just a warning type thing, or does it mean I need new brakes? Annnd, the car is covered if it needs new brakes, right? (God, I hope so!)
Thank you,
Robert

It means that the brake pads need to be checked, and most likely need to be replaced.
And yes, they are covered under the Maintenance Agreement up to 3 year,/36K miles on '02 cars.

Thanks Terry,
I appreciate your response. I need to take it in today and see what they say.

Okie Dokie, The front brakes went below 3mm(?) so they fixed em under warranty, but I said "Gosh, 27,000 miles dosen't seem like very many miles for new brakes." The rep said the fronts usually go at 19-22,000. Hmmmmmmm okay, I guess. Does that seem right to you guys? Anyway, a good experience nonetheless.

Depends on how you drive.
Some of us can destroy a set of stock pads in a weekend. :)
I quickly removed the stock pads from both of ours, so have no idea what they would have gone to, but typically front pads last 20K - 35K for most drivers, we get between 65K - 100K out of a set on other cars. Lots of highway miles and planning ahead so less braking.
