Hello guys,

While engine is running, if you open the oil cap, it makes a clicking sound. Apparently this is not normal, thats what the mechanic said.
No engine sound when cap is closed. Is this a problem or is it just because the pressure is lost when the oil cap is open?

PLEASE HELP, just spent a lot of money on the car, going nuts!

Simple. Don't open the oil cap with the engine running. Not even sure why you would want to do that unless you want to wear oil when filling the motor.

The answer dont open the cap doesnt really help me :) As I mentioned, the mechanics are saying that this should not be happening. Opening the cap lets you check for some underlying problems that the car may have, and this sound clearly tells that there is something wrong.

Anyone had a similar problem? Any ideas?

I'd bet the noises you are hearing are coming from all of the parts moving inside of the engine.

Do you own a Diesel BMW? Do you hear the same noises when the cap is open? Apparently its not suppose to do that...

What mechanic said it isn't normal?

He ought to be able to hazard a guess as to its cause as well.

My point was that I cannot imagine what your mechanic would be checking for by opening the oil fill cap with the engine running. If there was pressure behind the cap that would indicate an issue, but just an increase in noise does not really mean anything.

Your probably hearing the valves open and close.

Your probably hearing the valves open and close.

Exactly.

May be time to change the oil too!
