My 2000 x5 with 50k miles didnt pass emissions, has a check engine light on. checked the codes with a peake scan tool, came back as "mixture control, idle, Cyl#1-4" and "mixture control, idle, Cyl #5-8". anyone have any experiences with these codes? what could be causing them? any help would be appreciated
"davidcle" had the same code. He advised to look at the oil seperator in the back of the engine along with misc hoses and the intake manifold cover (in the back of the engine). first of all, the 2 "oil vent hoses" on the top of the engine were dry rotted and falling apart. i took off the intake manifold cover and found oil in the intake manifold. so i ended up replacing the oil sperator, 3 hoses attached to the oil seperator, intake manifold cover (along with oil return line from the manifold cover to the oil seperator) and gasket, also valve cover gaskets (probably not related to the codes, but the engine was leaking oil and needed to be replaced), and changed the maf sensor. drove for about 150 miles so far and no check engine light, took it to the emissions station this afternoon and PASSED emissions. total spent in parts was under $200 and approx 10 hours in labor (hard to reach places in the back of the engine). im in the clear for now. ill keep this thread updated incase someone has the same problem.
