I thought we should start one so those looking to purchase can see color, wheel, interior, etc options.

Feel free to post any and all pics of the F12/13 here!

Below are two pics I took this morning at the dealership.

This is pretty similar to the F12/F13 color thread - no? Perhaps the mods will merge the two at some point.

I saw your post on my first thread with pics about the wheels. I agree these are great looking wheels - I'd put them on any car! I remember ordering the car and asking the dealer which wheels were the standard ones bc bmwusa.com didn't show them yet. I honestly thought that these wheels would be the premium 20" ones. I was elated to learn they were the standard ones. I like the darker inset too. That's why I chose space gray cover ups on the bmw roundels to match.

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I ordered a "base" wheel, but these are my favorite on the new 6. Can't wait...

My new F12 down at the beach

alpine white / cinn / beige top
premium sound
heated front seats
20" wheels
integral active steering

Of course the dealer had the tires incorrectly inflated at 28lbs, should be 38 front and 42 rear. My last 3 bmw's were delivered to me with under inflated tires too, so much for attention to detail.

Mine came with 50 lbs in the front and 55 lbs in the rear tires. Must be hard to remember to check the tires when they go through the PDI routine. After all, it's only a safety issue.

Yeah when I bought it I thought there might be too much blue tint but it doesn't seem that way, the black come through more in the pics than in person though.

Here are some pics of different convertible colors/configurations I saw at the Performance Center this weekend:

1. Carbon Black with Black Roof (M Sport and non-Full LEDs, I believe).

2. Mojave with Black Roof (non-M Sport + Full LEDs).

The test car I drove for my PCD was a Vermillion Red with Black Roof and Black Nappa interior + DAP + CWP + luxury Seats; no LEDs; not sure about IAS or ARS.

Really not liking carbon black with the black roof. The two different shades of black are really way off. That's my opinion though. The black roof looks much better with black sapphire.

southern6er22
02-13-2012, 03:11 AM
I'm thinking that car was probably a PCD That has been sitting for a couple days. Couldn't keep straight the purpose of all of their lots. More new/fairly BMWs than I have seen in my entire life.

I think I'd probably go for black sapphire and skip the M Sport or, more likely, go a completely different color and get the M Sport. I don't think I could pass up the exhaust and M steering wheel now that I'm hooked. This weekend I really learned to appreciate the steering wheel compared to other Bimmers. There was a definite difference in feel between the non-M 650 convertible and my M coupe. The M Sport exhaust + convertible seems like too good of a combo if I wanted a convertible. Then I could fully appreciate the increasing size of my carbon footprint while in Sport mode :)

Well, you're a coupe man now brotha.

Amen to that.

BTW, Southern, do you recall if that carbon black vert was a 640? The online configuror doesn't let you combine a 650 carbon black M-sport with convertible... But it does for the 640. Weird.

Edit- according to the pic, the rectangle exhaust indicates that it should be a 650... If you look closely

southern6er22
02-13-2012, 08:42 PM
I think those wheels are also exclusive to 650 M Sports. The 640 has a different 20" rim, I believe...

Wait, are you saying that BMW is publishing false information?!?!?!?! Especially regarding the 2012 6er?!?!

Their team really fell apart with getting their facts straight. I did, however, complain about the non-auto trunk, no soft-close, and no shadowline (especially the great expense aftermarket for something that should be included in a $4400 package) in my post-purchase survey where it asks about suggestions for BMW engineers. The dealer and sales team were great, I figured this was a good chance to voice some of these problems in a form that has a chance of being read by someone who might care - for half a second before it gets thrown into a stack with 100 other surveys lol.

Itinj6
02-13-2012, 10:45 PM
According to the website, you can configure those 20" wheels (373M) on a 640 but who the hell really knows, right lol. Not even BMW. But Carbon Black is not a color option at all for the 650 Vert. Interesting.

I really hope they read the survey. I mean, who knows what the consumer wants more than the consumer. I think it's safe to assume that the majority would like the Shadowline on their M-Sport, soft-close and auto trunk. That's old stuff for BMW. How they didn't add that to their new 83K+ 6er is beyond me.

Mine are plain gloss black without a logo or anything :(

I guess they changed that recently. Yours is the first (at least on a F12/F13) that I've seen with them. I recognized them as they look like the aftermarket/upgraded brakes for the new F30 as well as the new M6.

Just a bit jealous... haha

interesting... mine is not that new, came in mid-January, early/mid December production. It was a custom order, where I added the M kit last minute with a call to Germany... Don't be jealous, I don't' think there is anything M about them, I thought it's just for the looks ;) I'll take some close up photos tomorrow for us to compare.

Very interesting. Mine went into production around the 20th of December, and I took delivery January 31st. It's weird that there is a difference, especially since our cars are basically identical (CB M Sport, xDrive, ARS, 373M wheels, etc.) other than yours being a convertible and having the cinnamon interior.

Very nice ride indeed!!!

Plasti-Dip only comes in matte, right? I definitely want a black grille on mine like you and Jonny, but still deciding between gloss and black. I think I may go gloss to match the gloss black wheels (I plan on doing) and the stock gloss Shadowline trim.

Speaking of which, your Shadowline trim looks matte as well. Did you Plasti-Dip that too or am I seeing things?

Also, is that "model designation deletion" option a joke or are you serious? Lol. What else can they do when you custom order??? Just when I thought I did all my research...

I better stop looking for these things before I drive my sales manager crazy with last minute changes. Haha

mtuncy
03-09-2012, 07:57 AM
regular plastidip is matte but they recently came up with some new enhancers glossifier, metallizer etc., so you basically do the matte and then put couple of layers of glossifier to make it glossy black or metalizer to make it like gun metal (http://www.youtube.com/user/DipYourCarcom?feature=watch#p/a/u/2/2INDcL22Twk).

The shadow line trims are not plastidipped they are painted matte black because of the rest of the black trim pieces (i.e. underneath the mirror caps, windshield strip, folding top cover etc.) are matte I thought it'll blend in better.

I'm not joking about the model designation deletion, option 320 or S0320 - Modellschriftzug Entfang. I even pushed for soft-close doors - S0323 but they refused, I don't know if I was too late or because it was a U.S. spec car but I heard this years' models will have it as standard at some point. There is some interesting stuff too like S0XL1 (wood inlay for the steering wheel matching the interior wood trim). These don't show up on U.S. order form but they can always request it, it's up to Germany to say yay or nay. I'll find the list.

Yes, I think the matte trim does look better on the convertible, especially with the folding top cover.

I wonder why they are so stingy with options that we should be able to have, considering other models have them. It's not like they have to fabricate something new. It's already there!

Also, nice touch on the black/white roundels

Thanks for the link!

Thanks! I'm waiting on the lowering springs from AC Schintzer to get the proper stance. The ride is great, I originally thought the 22's would be too big but they fit well on the car. I am probably going to wrap the trim in a gloss black 3M. Vinyl, I own a shop in Miami that does custom vehicle wraps. I love this car I'm glad I went with this instead of the M3.

Thanks Itin. Yep, that's a beautiful car.

Question for coupe owners with cars other than black...Has anyone painted the roof of a coupe black to leave only the A and C pillars the color of the car? Just wondering what it would look like with the center of the roof between the drip edges if that was the same color as the sunroof?

No problem :)

That's exactly what I would do if I got white. But I wouldn't paint it. I would just vinyl wrap it. Much cheaper and removable.

Doesn't the MB E Coupe come stock like that?

Doesn't the MB E Coupe come stock like that?

Yep. It has a panorama sun roof that goes pretty deep into the backseat, and the entire roof is black. I saw a white one yesterday. It really is a pretty good looking car from the outside... not a 6er, but pretty good for a dressed up C Class.

I am also considering vinyl wrapping the roof in gloss black and a matte white wrap for the rest of the car.

Well that was a mean thing to do to the owner of the old 6er lol. The old one looks sad. The size difference is very apparent in these pics. Most comparisons I've seen have been separate pics of the two cars, so the scale was not the same. You read that they increased the length and width by a few inches each, but it really didn't seem like a noticeable amount - but these pics really show it.

I didn't have a problem with the old 6er until the new one came out. Maybe I just bought into the "ooooooo it's a 6 Series" of the car, but I didn't find it offensive. Now they've set the bar pretty damn high, and it's hard to believe that the two are related. The old one although not universally beautiful like the F12/F13, it was at least distinctive.

You are aware of our bias correct?

Owners of the older model may think they have a "universally beautiful 6."

They'd be wrong but that's another story.

Well, what strikes me is that one car is eight years old, and one is brand new. After eight years, that's still a very relevant car, and even still well ahead of the other cars that are much newer. Whether it is pretty or ugly, it was that way 8 years ago and hasn't changed at all, like when you see some cars and think, "What were we thinking back then."

I always thought the side was beautiful, and I still think it is. I never minded the Bangle Butt. The S-Class copied it. The Acura RL copied it.

The front always gave me grief. I never liked the headlight set up. The '08 update helped a tiny, tiny bit, but it was always the front that troubled me. The M6 always looked like a gorilla in the front, to me. But I tell ya, that was the best car that I have ever had. I literally never went to the shop, and it had a lot of technology for the day.

BMW has done a good job at keeping their cars relevant down the road. Definitely evolutionary design changes, but you have to go back a couple generations to look at Bimmer and think it looks dated. To most of us it's probably a lot easier to think a BMW looks old, but we pretty much study the designs of these cars and can pick up on LCI changes between the years.

Hahaha. I got it now. Was Ginger really a ginger? I can't remember... I haven't seen it in about 10 years - for you old guys, that's about half my life  I had a redhead phase a couple years ago (ugly ending lol), but I remember Ginger being pretty hot (and I hadn't even hit puberty then haha).

On a more serious note, that arrangement might work pretty well. My physics and organic chem background have taught me how to make some great things that might be useful on an island - wine, beer, hard cider, whiskey, aspirin, posion darts for hunting, pickling and curing etc.

I could probably live on an island just a few requests: (1) my 6er, (2) a long paved road sans cops around the entire island with long straights and nice twisty bits, (3) Ginger - preserved to her 1960s body, not the same actress as she's probably older than my grandma, and that's just nasty, (4) an iPad with Wi-Fi, and (5) a Starbucks. I don't think that's unreasonable :)

most luxury car makers like BMW, Benz and Lexus have a 6 - 7 yrs model cycle, and they do the facelift around 4 or 5 yrs into the production, usually with Benz takes the longest, thus it feels like the SL just had a facelift which happened in 2008

so 7 yrs is a complete generation model cycle while 4 yrs would be the standard facelift point

BMW is. In three years, when your lease is up, there will be a refreshened 6. Then, three years later, a new one. Like clockwork.

No kidding. I thought it was seven years. I thought I would be two years in an old body style come 2019 and '20...

Hopefully by then, the X6 50i and 650i will be an X6M and M6 in my stable.

The X6 M is unbelievable. I drove it at the PC and was amazed. It was the most powerful car we were able to drive, and it just brings the X6 to a whole new level. It definitely felt big, but it was still an ///M. It wasn't an M3 by any means, but it was phenomenal. It made an X5 feel like a regular SUV loaded down with a palate of bricks.

I think my X6 50i is pretty powerful now for an SUV (SAV). The X6M must be a blast.

And speaking of which, the X6 feels like a small car drive to me. Much more so than the 650. That said, the 650 is probably messing with my perception lol.

I don't find the car that big in terms of maneuvering. Visibility sucks (thank God for the cameras and sensors), but I'm not bothered with it's turning radius... but, as I said before, I'm used to driving cars that are the antithesis of a Prius. This car might as well be a Z4 :)

You know, it could be. I was counting my 335...I was the first one in Houston in 2007, so 2007, 08 ,09, 10, 11, and 12. The 13 comes out next year, so yea maybe 7 then.

The concept of the i8 was one of the reasons I realized "oh, sh*t! I need to get a real German sports coupe before it's too late and I'm forced to drive a battery operated 'sports car' that has the same grunt as a Kia Rio so it plays a recording of an M5 from yesteryear."

I can't wait to see what the future holds for the automotive world, but it's going to be hard to think of a hybrid/electric as a sports car - no matter what the performance figures show. Gotta club the baby seals now while I have the chance :)

it's average 7 yrs indeed, thought it's a bit odd what they did to E90, cuz it has the shortest model cycle while there are models with longer than 7 yrs cycle as well.

E63 and E64 had a 7 yrs run, with updated engine came out three yrs after first introduced. then again, how they wanna work F12 and F13 is really everyone's guess at this point, but with the new updated engine coming out next year, it sure seems very ODD with how they managing this portfolio here

Hahaha. It's even harder to be discrete when you're snapping pictures. Been there, done that. I think its a prerequisite to have an ego big enough to not be bothered by those looks to buy a 6er.

Not to drive my point home, but if you look at both of those pictures, the last generation 6 will be, what, 14 years old when our 6 gets replaced. I say, "Damn. You go Chris Bangle." My favorite color by far. Weirdly, the M6 version of Canyon Brown does not appear to have the cool white contrast bit on the seat bottom. Still getting it though!

I'm wondering if the deletion of this white portion is due to the M6's seats being a slightly different design or if they decided to eliminate on later cars as it starts to look dirty (?). Idk, I'm just trying to figure out why they'd make the change. While it is a nice accent, I think the two-tone leather and the contrast stitching are the most important details.

The other question I have is: Why is there not a black ceramic option for the shifter and controls in the M5 and M6? I think this minute detail is a very nice addition to the interior, Individual or standard interior, as it adds just one more level of exclusivity and uniqueness - similar to the B&O speaker covers. Just seems like something that wouldn't be hard to do that most people would add to the car. They surely make a nice little profit by charging $650 for such a small thing, particularly if 95% of M5s and M6s include it on the build sheet. Just curious...

To answer your first question, the seat design is indeed different - at least the leather cover is (I just double-checked). If you look at the M6 seats, some of the major seams are different right in the area that you see the white stripes on for the non-M 6es (front seat bottoms, rear seat backs). So that probably explains it. That M logo also apparently costs $1500 more too!

No real answer on question 2, and I agree it's a bit of a shame.

Thanks for the kind words....Only have about 500 miles on the new springs so we will see if there is any more settling. As I stated earlier, the drop on the front is spot-on. The rear looks great but I agree, a drop of another 6-8mm would be ideal for my taste. The wheels for me were a no-brainer. I was also considering the VVS-CV3's but in the end, opted for a more classic mesh wheel look. The MRR's have the look of a 3 piece wheel at half the price. I've had plenty of expensive 3 piece wheels over the years and bending one makes you want to :bawling:. Not only the replacement cost but depending on the wheel, there could be a 3-6 week wait to have a new one made and shipped. The MRR is a pretty sturdy wheel...I've already hit a couple of big potholes with the wheels still running true. I live pretty close to their plant so if I do one day bend one, my dealer says they can have a new one on the car in 24 hrs.

I included a couple of pics, though not great by any means. Got her tinted on Saturday so I'll re-post with some new pictures sometime this week. Here are the options with the car:

- Dark Oak Trim
- Black Dakota Leather
- M Sport Package (20" style 373M)
- Luxury Seating Package

- Cold Weather Package
- Full LED headlights

- Ceramic Controls

So far it's been a great car. The Turbo 6 is pretty quick.
