Hi,

I heard that we cannot change oil ourselves in 2003/4 5 series car because dealer will find out and void the warranty ??

Another thing I heard about the oil change/service light is that it needs to be reset by dealer's computer otherwise the car computer will degrade the performance of the car to force the owner to go back to the dealer to reset the light and/or perform the oil change.

Are these true ?? What about after warranty expired, we still have to go back to dealer to do the simple oil change and reset the service light ????

Another piece of information regarding to the battery. If we disconnect the battery ourselves, we need dealer's computer to activate the system for us. Otherwise, the car won't run even we connect the battery back ?????

These seem ridiculous to me, but that's what I heard. Oh, I also heard that Z8 has black box build-in to record and monitor the driving habit of the owner. Dealer can pull that piece of information out and use it ....

Any comments on these concerns are appreciated.

thought 2004 models come with the maintenance deals from the dealers' service dept, meaning that they will change engine oils & brake pads, and etc....

i'm pretty sure you can find the *reset* tool for the maintenance gauge.

Thanks for the reply. I am concerning about the after warranty maintenance. I use to maintain car myself as much as possible. If the task is too complicate, then I will let dealer to do it.

The battery deal is scary. That means we need to let dealer to change battery for us !!!
