More pics. BTW, the car has the (Dreaded) Goodyear all seasons. We'll see how they fare.

The car's lines are so complex that pictures don't do it justice. The GT looks SO much better in person. Btw, I just saw the 1 series and experienced the same thing, the 'nose' looks a lot better in person. I think it's how BMW design plays with depth, which is completely lost in a picture...

Now on to the Museum.

The color looks great in the sun. Also noticed that the steering doesn't have the "M" on it..Thought he M-Sport had that. Am guessing the sport exhaust is not installed and will be installed stateside. Rt?

I was surprised by that, I was expecting the //M door sills and steering wheel. Apparently not the case..not sure why. I'll check the bmwusa website and ask my CA. And apparently the sport exhaust is installed...this thing has a grunt the normal gt's I test drove didn't. I'll be able to tell for sure when I take redelivery.

I'll post more pics later, just got to Innsbruck after driving to fussen.

Do you see any difference between the steering wheel you have and a regular sport steering? The BMWUSA site says M-Sport package includes "M Steering Wheel" and shows the below picture in the "build your own..." interior pics

Mine has the black trim piece (m-sport) instead of the brushed aluminum (reg. Sport), other than that I think they're both the same.

I was looking forward for the sills with the //m but oh well. I think these may be early production issues that'll be sorted out by the time yours is built.

All very nice sporty enhancements - what's not to like?

Well....since I raised the question....nothing....but I would ask BMW to consider adding a
few further additions/refinements.

In the past year, I have come to the realization that the 550i GT is an exceptional product that offers effortless luxurious cruising, but also spirited engaging performance in challenging mountainous settings. I think there are a couple easy additions BMW could make that would go a long way to enhance the "gran turismo" DNA of the GT, that I am surprised, are not apart of the "M" Sport pack.

1- Performance exhaust - the current exhaust lacks a pulse - pure 7 series. A friend of mine owns a Maserati GT that has an exhaust note that is reason alone to purchase the car. The BMW Twin Turbo V8 is such an incredibly sweet engine but the aural experience is jus' missing....like eating a gourmet hot dog without the spicy mustard...it's good but bland.

2. Paddle shifters - their presence would be a statement that the GT is car that is not only capable, but meant to be enjoyed for it's prowess. The V8 is so incredibly flexible and the 8 speed shifts like butter - but there have been more than a few times, when driving in the mountains or on some challenging stretch, that the center console shifter has proved awkward.

Lastly, I was taken aback, when I went to the BMWUSA site, and built out a new GT. I was surprised that the M Sport Pack comes only with 19" wheels. If this is true, this might be sufficient reason to forgo the M Sport Pack, and instead opt for the regular sport pack that offers 20 inch wheels as an option. The GT is visually massive and sports robust athletic styling that IMO requires 20 inch wheels to complete the picture. The bold styling details of the GT and 20 inch wheels work in concert to impart to the GT serious road presence.

BTW I am not necessarily a fan of large wheels in general but I think they are one of the essential elements that serves to transform the 5GT from luxury hatchback to Gran Turismo Redefined. Obviously, BMW does not agree with my appraisal.

In the end, there are really no bad choices - the GT is a flexible platform that can appeal to diverse needs and desires exceptionally well.

Well, the M-Sport is good. I was just pointing out the different components of the package as 1stbimmer did not have the //M on the steering and the M door sill finishers. If I am paying for the M-Sport, I want to make sure I get all of it:bigpimp:

The ordering guide for the 2012 GT shows that a Sport exhaust is included with the M-Sport package for the 550

Am not sure when you last checked out BMWUSA, but it now has the 2012 configurator and the M-Sport has an option of 20's

Picked up the 535ix GT today. Awesome car

It's the base model with ZVP, comfort seats and heated front seats. It has the LS2 RFT's for what it's worth ( I did check with the BMW service dept and they are putting Bridgetstone's on for any replacements but said 25-30K miles was about normal on th 18" wheels). Appearance is stunning and the mud flaps give it added prowess :bigpimp:

Initial impressions :
- I thumped the gas and response was great. Not the roar of a v-8, but nothing missing IMO
- x-drive pulled the car through some turns especially from a standstill. Almost felt like a front wheel drive which I'll need to get used to having only had RWD BMW's in the past
- interior space is everything I wanted. Having had a 740i, and the older style 5's, this was a big selling factor for me
- ride is stiff on the 18" wheels, I felt the road immediately : good or bad we'll see. Goodyear shop called me and said that if there are bubbles, they will waranty them throughout the life. I did not opt for any tire insurance and the BMW "tire guy" said that was ok with the 18's but you never know....
- base sound system is excellent, started storing CD's this evening and chosing settings for the quick keys as there are preset favorite stations, lots of HD stations, and it auto finds local am/fm stations as you are driving. Lots of radio - I personally would not ever need Satelite
- comfort seats awesome, no need for anything but them IMO
- still getting used to storage locations for "things"
- nav comes with traffic warnings from BMW - thought I needed Sat for this, but you do not (volume of the guidance voice is adjusted by using the radio volume when she talks, remember this..... :-)
- Blackberry Bold synched effortlessly and captured my contacts without a hitch. No email (BMW Apps) but I do not think I'd ever use that.
- The manual does not fit in the glove box without angling it up... weird...
- the doors are heavy and need to be pulled/pushed shut hard
- fog lights do not stay on or come on in auto mode - did not know that
- wipers auto mode does not stay on as standard- knew this
- weathertech makes a cargo liner that fits the sapce and costs about $130 (for my outdoor excursions :D )
- windows seem tinted well, I'll see if I go to Lumar OpticBlue 50 or 70% as the months wear on.
- i-drive will confuse you, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel all ready
- make oil level a quick key during break in period
- Nav on dash is great. Not sure I'd benefit from HUD
- make sure keys are far enough away from the car when parked, that they do not keep convenience doors working and subsequently killing the battery

Feel free to PM me with any questions you might want to ask off line.

Pics once I get to it; rain tomorrow and not even a garage spot for me so she sits outside tonight :bawling: Oh well, it is a car

Question on your door comment: soft close doors should help shutting the door, correct?

Or were you implying that the doors are just that much heavy to push/pull?

Thanks -

MyCabrandz - I did not get the soft close door option. That should help if you think closing the door will be a problem. I noticed immediately that the doors were heavy like my older BMW's, and coming from a LX400h right now, different. Good different :D

Looks sweet in the driveway right now!

I've only been in comfort mode for the breakin period, but there is no lack of power or jump in the car that I have felt. Maybe it's a newer software version, but as many had reported bad responsiveness, i'm not seeing it.

Another observation - I wish BMW would swap the climate controls with the retractable drawer. More like the 5 series layout. Not sure what that would do to the cup holders (that work by the way), but better access to those controls would be nice.

Anyone ever notice that on a cold day, when you turn the heat on and put your coffee in the cup holder, the A/C kicks on. Why??? I believe it's because the thermostat is right behind the cup and thinks the car is hot..... Go figure BMW, fix that too, although it's been that way for a long time.

The raised center of gravity seems to make the car sway a bit too. Anyone ever notice that?

Just visited my 2012 550i xDrive M-Sport at the dealer. Apparently I locked in September's rates and they expire November 30th. My lease is up on my 2008 E93 M3 in mid December. Guess I have no choice but to get my GT earlier, probably going to get the BMW wheel and tire insurance since my GT comes with the Pirelli's on 20" rims.
