That's about as bad a site for pricing info as I could imagine.

Add up the equipment you want for invoice and MSRP. Pay somewhere in between. Since 5ers are a new model, expect to pay much closer to MSRP. But maybe someone can shed some light on the possibility of getting below MSRP.

C'mon guys, give him a break. A fair price for a 525/530 would be 1000-1500 over invoice.

I agree - some members on this board need to relax.

I am currently shopping for a new BMW, and looked at 530's and 545's in the Los Angeles area within the last several weeks. Decided to take a rain check on the idea because of I-Drive...but that is a whole different thread.

I was quoted anywhere from $2,000 over invoice (with ZERO effort) to $5,000 over sticker (I laughed and walked away from that tool of a salesman)

Best thing to do is know the invoice and go from there.
Below MSRP is not only possible, but easy to get in this market.
If someone says it's not, they do not know the current market.

Edmunds gives TMV, which is basically what others are paying. If i were to say $X over invoice, the next question would be, 'what's invoice'. Those sites answer both questions. With those sites, he can play around with different options too.

hey folks,
thanks for all the insight uve been providing...

just to keep u all informed
i've looked at the specs on edmunds, they say about 750 less mSRP, which i don't think is accurate. I spoke to a few dealers...and they are quoting approx 2 over invoice...

$2,000 over invoice is exactly the quote i was getting initially.

with a little effort, i think lomag is correct:

A fair price for a 525/530 would be 1000-1500 over invoice.

Edmunds TMV is amusing to me as it's saying to buyers, "get what the average buyer gets!" Oh joy, dream the impossible dream of paying what everybody pays.

Edmunds TMV is a good starting point to have an idea of what people are paying, but it's not really reflective of real-world pricing most of the time.

When I got my S2000, the TMV was somewhere in the 3K over sticker range, and almost nobody was paying that!

Edmunds TMV for my M3 said the average buyer was paying msrp in my area. Most people I've spoken to were in the $1500 - $2000 under MSRP range.

Net, Edmunds TMV is useless.

Try this, talk to a dealer, say you want to be near invoice, talk for a while, act interested, a leave making sure he has your contact info. Do that with 2-3 dealers mid-month.

See who calls.

Tactic two is harder with BMWs, where you probably want to custom order. Go in about 2 hours before closing on the last day of the month. If there is car in stock that you want, your position is best. If the salesman keeps you waiting while he talks sports scores with the manager/closer, wander around the showroom and make him look for you (that is a tactic used to wear you down, you can use it to.) By closing time, if he wants to make the deal, you should get his best offer.
