Attendees Get Rare Chance For Behind the Scenes Tour of Remarkable Facility

This past Saturday November 5th, Bimmerfest Founder Jon Shafer led a group of 100 eager BMW enthusiasts down to the Western Region's BMW Vehicle Distribution Center in Oxnard for a complete tour of the facilities. Broken up into groups of 20, Managers Al Cardona and Gary Terlecki shared some very interesting factoids such as:

* The whole place has now just 8 actual BMW employees, the other 40 are subcontractors.
* This staff of 48 can process ~300 cars per day.
* When peak throughput is required (500-600 cars/day) they get surge capability through temps.
* The VDC site covers 124 acres with 43,000 square feet of buildings.
* Up to 95 cars an hour are run through a very new and high-tech car wash.
* Capacity to process 110,000 cars per year; expect to do 86,000 this year.
* The break down of cars processed is 78% BMW, 21% MINI, 1% RR
* 2 Wallenuis ships arrive full of vehicles in Port Hueneme per week.
* BMWs built in So. Carolina are also delivered by rail nearby and processed at the VDC.

Special vehicles on hand just for the eyes of our guests include Active E, F10 M5, a camouflaged specimen of the all-new F30 3 Series, a Frozen Silver E92 M3, and more.

Perhaps more than anything, the event provided an opportunity for Bimmerfest Members to meet face to face, folks who prior to this only knew each other by their Bimmerfest nicknames. It was obvious that many real friendships were made. Some attendees were given a very special treat -- the chance to see their own new BMWs that hadn't been delivered to their retail centers yet. This included European Delivery customers wanting to reconnect with their new vehicles! A couple of Bimmerfest Client Advisors, Will Shaw from Long Beach BMW and Greg Poland from Pacific BMW joined the event as well. It was classic Bimmerfest. "Bringing the BMW Community Together".

Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday to make this event a success. Special shout out to Tom (a.k.a. "SD 335is") for helping us manage the attendee sign ups! And thanks also to BMW of North America and BMW Santa Barbara for making this day possible...

Wow, I am waiting for delivery of my 335is convertible. It is in the background on pics 83, 84, & 85 (space gray with coral red and the same ED license plate kind of gave it away - wife couldn't believe it until I showed her). Thanks for the great pics and removing much of the mystery about what goes on here. Plus I've been missing my car for several weeks. Can't believe I found actual pics of it on here. Much appreciated.

Many companies use subs and temps to manage business spikes etc but out of 48 employees only 8 work for BMW with BMW level salary and benefits? I bet that mix wouldn't be acceptable in Germany...
