"Thank you for the email informing me of the Santa Barbara Police Department
activity at your event held in Earl Warren Showgrounds. As you can imagine, I
have received several such emails, all documenting the same thing.
It sounds to me like the tickets given out are for violations of the vehicle
code, but may or may not be enforced in other jurisdictions. The real problem
area is the aspect of overzealous policing. I have asked the City Administrator
and Police Chief to look into the matter, and report back to me.
I hope this will not deter you from visiting Santa Barbara again. We are really
a good little city, and I think you will enjoy your stay here as long as I can
make sure our police department allows you to enjoy your visit next time! If
they don't, please feel free to let me know.
Marty Blum
Mayor"
everyone should feel comfortable coming to SB now!

That's reassuring. :)
I found it odd though that it said "I hope this will not deter you from visiting Santa Barbara again". Don't you live in SB? :p :D
But then again... how was the mayor to know from your email... :)
Cool you got a response from him though.

I missed something - what happened - did the SB police do some kind of crack down on another event? :dunno:

I missed something - what happened - did the SB police do some kind of crack down on another event? :dunno: Get with the program Scott  . There have been a couple of threads about it... seems the SBPD staked out the entrances/exits at the fairgrounds and were pulling everyone over for exceedingly minor infractions (no front plate, tinted front windows, etc., etc.), while letting real infractions (moving violations) by the general public go.

Basically the city of SB needs to raise all the revenue it can to pay the PR firm they hired in Santa Monica to recover from the butt monkey DA Sneden botching the MJ inditment.

Sorry - been gone for a while :)
I have a friend that lives in Goleta and late last year she got an expensive ticket for stopping at an intersection with part of her car in the cross walk (there were no pedestrians at the intersection). This wasn't long after the California budget crisis was in full swing.
Has Santa Barbara turned their police force into a money making machine to make up lost funds from the state?

Has Santa Barbara turned their police force into a money making machine to make up lost funds from the state? Aren't all police forces really in the revenue enhancement business :dunno: :yikes:

True, but I wonder if SB Police has taken to handing out tickets (and not cheap ones) for every ticky tack infraction they see. :dunno:
