Don't do it!! Don't go to the "Dark Side."
Although it may sound like a good buy, it's a Nissan. I'm sure the craftmanship is crap like all Nissans. You may like the car but it will probably start falling a part after a few years.

Small points to consider:
First if you want to be a hts understudy:yikes: :thumbdwn: go with the g35.
When it all comes down to it do you really expect the Pissan to have a better (less nickel and dime problems) service issue record:dunno:
Do you want to lose you moderator status here:confused:
Have you considered the OUDMPTD:D the only ultimate driving machine per TD ?
all things aside, buy what you like better but be mindful that no matter what improvements the G35 possesses, it still will not drive like a BMW:( Weigh you options and be comfortable with your choice. And on the bright side :tsk: if you go G35, you and hts can set up a new board service:rolleyes:

Go for the G35 Coupe, its already a classic. In person it looks fantastic, 3 series is already looking dated.
Tremendous value, just make sure to get a test drive first.
>First if you want to be a hts understudy:yikes: :thumbdwn: go >with the g35.
Hell NO!!! no understudy from that freak ;P
Do you want to lose you moderator status here:confused:
lol that won't happen :)
its sill a while away .... we will see

The G35 and G35 coupe have one of the ugliest cheapest looking interiors I have ever seen in a car in this class. The G35 sedan is having big time problems selling, this is being widely reported on auto sites and message boards. Everyone says the same, the interior sucks. The coupe interior looks the same as the sedan, only slightly modified. I don't think their is a comparison between the two cars, one is a bimmer, the other is a Nissan. If you get the G35 your getting a second class car. Dont fool yourself!
What's with people knocking Nissan's . . . my Pathfinder had only one real problem in the 3 yrs we owned it and all that was wrong was the power door locks broke.
They make excellent cars and for those of us that were lucky enough to drive the 300ZX twin turbo . . . WHEW !!!! that was one awesome machine that would wipe the floor with our 3er.
If the G35 coupe is anything like the Z was, then that is going to be one hell of a car.
I saw the G35 Coupe at the Autoshow and found myself going back to look at it at least 3 or 4 times . .. it looked beautiful !!!

A Infiniti is not a BMW, never will be. If you put the car on the same pedestal you are only fooling yourself. I have not seen the G35 coupe in person only pictures. I cannot comment on the exterior. But I can comment on the interior. It is nearly identical to the sedan's. The interior of the sedan is horrendous. This is the main reason sales of the sedan have been so slow!

This is just another selling point for Ashe to buy the Inifiniti . . . I couldn't have put it any better myself :lmao: :lmao:

The G35 is a nice sedan. Among the Japanese near-luxomobiles, it may be the brightest star. But just test drive and check how soft the steering feel is. It may even make TD reconsider his view of the 2001 E46. :D
In the end, you are the master of your money. There is not such a thing as a bad decision, just a regreted decision. :D
Sigh.... Drag me into this...
I have not driven the G35 (nor do I have any desire to). However, logic would dictate that, while it *may* come close to the E46 in driving feel, the BMW is going to have better feel. Period.
Any decision to go with a direct BMW competitor over the corresponding BMW would have to be based on putting a higher value on the dollars saved than on having the better car. As in, what's the difference in feel actual worth to you in dollars? For many "status conscious" buyers (or even sporty car but not hard-core sport car drivers) this may be enough to justify going with a lesser car. But you do so with the understanding that it's a lesser car and your are making a deliberate $-based compromise.
Yes, the E46 is MUCH softer than I'd like it to be and MUCH softer than the E36. But it still feels much better than any competitor to date. In it's class, from a driver's perspective, the only car that beats an E46 is an E36.
Forget about the G35, take a look at the new Nissan 350Z coupe in one of the performance packages...
But, if you want the G35 coupe, wait until you can test drive both the G35 and the BMW. I think the BMW should be better, but just speculation.
I respectfully disagree with TD about the softenss of the E46 ;)

Now take this quote and hold it up against your sig pic. You have the sport suspension and STILL have that much body roll.
I had the UUC sways on my SP 330i so body roll was not an issue for me. But just going in a straight line, that car felt so cushy and isolated from the road surface that I kept forgetting it was a BMW. Hell, the A4 I had before it transmitted more information to the driver through the steering column than my E46 did.
You may like soft. That's cool. But the E46 sport suspension is SOFT.

I have bookmarked this quote and will be using it against you when need be . . . ;) ;) ;)
If you notice . . . I customized it a little to read the way I like :D :D

My car weighs about as much as your M3 and my E46 has anti-roll bars 1mm thicker in front and 1mm thinner in rear. Your car has only slightly less body roll than an E46 SP. I have seen both in person.
Who says I like it soft? The Sports suspension is an EXCELLENT OEM suspesenion
Here is a photographic comparison: Same place in the same turn, Unfortunately I do not have them from the same angle :(

BTW, you do know I'm just messing with you.
As for the track, sounds great. I autocross again on May 11th and I'm trying to convince my wife to take my car to the next NCC drivers school in July. It's only a one day school, so I figure it'd be perfect for her. I think she's leaning toward doing it. I think the deciding factor will be if a neighbor's helmet fits her. She can't use mine and buying her own would be silly for how often she would use it.
There were a couple of E39 M5s on the track at the school I attended, one in the A group and another in the C group with me. The A group driver was incredible, hanging the tail out as needed. But other than on the straights, I could easily hang with (if not actually want to pass) the C group M5. Until you know what you're doing, taht's a lot of weight to sling around.
But let's not start on weight again... ;P

Oh yeah, what was this thread about anyway?
Oh yeah, that piss-poor E46 wannabee G35. Let hts and Ashe go have a G35 love-fest. Maybe their unity in G35-fanaticism will help bridge the Palestinian conflict and we can stop seeing countless posts here on the subject.

Yea, I know. I convinced my dad to take his M5 out there and we are doing a two driver car. He has never done it before and the M5 is a lot of car to learn on  It handles very well and is quite predictable too.
I hope he has fun at his first even. I know that it will be a lot of fun to rag on someone else's M car :p
Here is the track layout:
I woner what the M5 will do coming into turn 1 :yikes:

Unless I'm missing something, turn 1/2 looks like a nice constant radius turn that you can actually carry some speed through, hanging the tail out as noted above. Obviously, coming in too hot could be ugly, though.

I'll make sure to try that on my first lap :p
Looks like the M5 will need new brakes an new Pilot Sports after this. I should tell him to set up an appointment on Monday morning after the event :p

Check out the sales figures of the G35 as reported on Edmunds.com. The car is having a heck of a time selling. Poor interior and the lack of manual transmission are the two biggest complaints according to the article. The G35 is a cheap imitation of the 3 series. If I want more horsepower I'll buy an M3. But if you go with a G35 you might as well buy a Mustang, same class of car!

Actually sales of the G35 Sedan have surpassed that of the IS300 AND BMW 3-series in its 2nd month already. Check www.google.com for G35 sales if you want..
