Just got my new 2012 650 convertible, at the dealer they offered me to activate the already installed LoJack for "only"$900. I was like: It's already installed? the dealer mentioned that they do install LoJack on every car on the lot. I decline that offer, and after two days I called the LoJack customer service and they activated for me for 0 dollars, because it's already there and I dont have to pay any service fee....If you guys end up with some dealer looking to charge you for that service while the unit is already installed, just tell them no thank you and it's gona cost you just a simple call to 1-800-456-5225 to activate it and also you might get some disconts from your insurance....

Sorry for the ignorant question, but I have never heard of the term Lojack here downunder. What is it?

I was under the impression that BMW assist will help the police with locating the car in case of theft (since the GPS is enabled already). This does give you a discounted insurance already. What is the advantage of LoJack over that?

BMW Assist does most of the same things LoJack does, anyway. OP: Would you mind telling us the name of the dealership that did this so no one else goes there to buy cars? I understand 'salesmen gonna sell' but that's just bad business.
To the Aussie, LoJack is a device that tracks the vehicle using GPS and allows remote disabling of the vehicle in the event it is stolen. It's a brand name, but many devices do the same thing and are all commonly mistakenly called LoJack.

What information do I need to get it activated through lojack?

Just call the 1-800 number and give them the last 8 digits of your VIN number. Like I said, for some reason , most dealers hare in SoCal pre-install the LoJack and the try to sell this as an option. I was at more than one and all the cars on the lot came with the LoJack pre-installed

how do you know if lojack was pre installed. They didn't even mention lojack. I guess I can call the number. Also there is a discount even with bmw assist with your insurance?

Why bother with Lojack when you have 4 free years of BMW Assist?
