View Full Version : Am I getting the right story?

When I was in the dealer ordering my M they told me the only way to get the full leather seats was to order the Premium package... is this correct?

When I configure it on the BMW site I can pick any seats without the Premium package...

Any of you "in the know" guys validate this?

No, no, no. They've got it wrong.

There was an issue back in July or August of last year, because BMWNA sent their dealers a spec sheet that had a couple of errors/typos. I can't believe they're still not aware of this.

Rest assured you can get leather as a separate item. I got the Power Seat Package, then chose the Moonroof and Gray Nappa Leather as individual options.

Thanks Buddy, I'll dig in my feet on this one. I don't want the PP if I don't HAVE to get it.

The way yours is spec'd is fine with me.

Yes--that's exactly what I did.

You can save about $350 by selecting the PSP rather than the PP, though you lose the rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights.

Not that I would split hairs over $350, but I seriously have no use for those 2 features.

Be aware also that the PSP includes the adj seatbacks/lumbar support.

I'm right there with you. I can turn on my lights and wipers myself.

Do you like the grey interior? I'm afraid it will show dirt in the long run, that's why I'm going with black...Thoughts, experience?

Lots of people have made negative comments in the past about the Grey, but I really love it. I've never liked black interiors, plus I'm in Texas, so it was a no-brainer for me. The grey actually complements the Topaz perfectly, IMO. It has just a hint of a bluish tint to it, so that makes it even more ideal for me.

Here's a pic:http://members.roadfly.com/atyclb/DSC00162.JPG

You could even consider Cinnamon. It's not for everyone, but I considered it, along with Grey. In the end I chickened out because nobody else had ordered the combo, but now that I've seen it it kind of works:

I have a spec sheet from Jan 2002 but it has the wrong price...does anyone know of a newer one?

The Cinnamon is too orange for me.

Has anyone from the .org M3 board ordered an Imola/Cinnamon combo yet? Should look quite nice!

If the Ferrari motif hasn't clicked in your head yet you're not a true car enthusiast! :p

Why would we want to make a BMW look like a prancing pony?

It's not neccessarily just to imitate a Ferrari, I honestly think it would look nice.

My fav M3 combo's may shock the more "reserved" members of this board:
Imola/Imola
Carbon/Imola
Alpine/Imola or LSB or Cinnamon
Phoenix/Kiwi

And I'm still on the fence about:
Topaz/Kiwi

Call me crazy, but if I were ordering an M3 for myself I'd choose one of those. Seriously. No that is not cocaine on my upper lip.

I was actually thinking of Techno Violet/Imola ... how's that for a shock

Oh yeah, I forgot you are a bright red owner. At least you have some daring nerves in you. The majority of the people here will never leave their black/silver/darkblue cars. If I ordered my car new it would have been Bright Red without a doubt. Hell, I have yet to see a red E46 around my area let alone a red sedan.

The IM/IM, Carbon/IM, and Alpine/IM are hot! I'm not a fan of Phoenix no matter what interior is in it, same goes for Kiwi. As I was ordering my car this weekend the salesman told me he just had a guy order Phoenix/Kiwi ...

Wild guess: you like Imola Red? :p

I have only seen 2 Phoenix M3's on the road, and as much as my friends told me they were feeling sick to the stomach after the sight, I love the colour.

Speaking of yellow, a house in my neighbourhood had a Dakar Z3 3.0 in the driveway yesterday. BMW Individual? Looked incredible.

I like Dakar yellow. Seen a pic of an E46 M3 in Dakar...very nice!

Phoenix Yellow is too green for me.

BACK to the topic, my dealer is checking with the home office on whether or not I can get Leather without the Premium Package.

Shees! Does Jon S. have any info on this? Jon????

no no no... rain sensor is very nice! Auto lights you could probably live without, but rain sensor is terrific esp. in light rain and scattered drizzle where it always finds the right speed to wipe the windshield, varying the intermittent rate constantly depending on conditions. :thumb:

But then again, I'm a gadget freak and am easily impressed. :p :D

You still have to turn on the wipers manually to activate the sensor, but then it's totally hands off. Highly recommended!

No, The rain sensor sucks. I had it on my 99 E46 and when I ordered my 01 E46 I made sure the car would not come with that feature.

I admit that it does work well at some moments but if the precipitation stops it often leaves a little water on the windscreen. Because it was below the threshold to wipe but it’s too much to just leave there so I would have to swipe it (I know it’s not that difficult but it’s annoying). I was constantly adjusting the sensitivity to get that last swipe and to get the first one going again.

It was cool when a truck splashed water on the car and the wipers would take care of it by itself. All in all the aggravation of an imperfect system was not worth that convenience TO ME. Maybe if the sensing area were bigger it would work a little better :dunno:

I really like the regular intermittent wipers on my current car. I never could figure out how to disable the rain sensor on my 99.

Automatic lights? Come on…….

I believe you buddy!! Thanks for all the info. They don't choose to take my word for it even when I send them the latest sheet.
They insist on calling Germany. Just thinking Jon might be able to give me some "official" bimmer reference "see policy####" or something.

That's all,

They don't need a reference sheet or anything. They just need the order screen. It'll let you choose leather seats separately.

I got just leather w/o the PP because I didn't want moonroof either.

it's ok...better than i thot it would be, but i find it gets fooled pretty easily..especially in sleet...omg, it just freaks out in sleet.

it needs a manual override, and it would be perfect. also, it seems u need fresh wiper blades or it gets confused by streaks and smears...other than that, it's way worth it.

dancing around getting PP and yet still ordering most of the components is dumb, imo.

Tell you rdealer it CAN be done.

I just picked up a Topaz/Gray M3 at the Performance Center last wqeek. No Premium Package, but full leather interior.

It CAN be done.

BTW the SMG is AWESOME. No regrets at all.
