Just curious what everyone is averaging (city, highway, and combined). I'm sure this will get better after the honeymoon period - at least that is what I'm telling myself. lol. I've been driving pretty much exclusively in sport and on the aggressive side of boring.

In Germany I averaged about 12 mpg but the car was new and there was a lot of fast runnin' on the autobahn :D Now that the car is back in SoCal I average about 20mpg but will see 23-24 mpg on long highway trips. Mine is a 6 speed manual so I imagine the auto's get better mileage

Edit: I have just over 4,000 miles on the vert now and the gas mileage has creeped up as the car broke-in. Mind you, it saw a lot of 150+ MPH break-in miles on the autobahn but during cold weather. I added the first quart of oil at 4,300 miles and expect the oil usage to decline as their will be limited opportunity to womp on it like I did in Germany now the car is in SoCal.

Wow...the highest avg. on my 640i is only 22.1mpg (half city half freeway).

I'm getting 22mpg with 80/20 highway and in sport mode when not on highway. I've hit 28mpg on a 2hr highway trip. I think you may have Pb foot disease? :D

southern6er22
02-02-2012, 02:40 PM
Definitely to the Pb foot disease. And I also have that Y chromosome that hears the glorious noise the exhaust makes when I put my foot down in sport and encourages the behavior. I'll probably start keeping it in comfort/normal when I'm driving around town and save Sport for more spirited situations lol.

Haha. I know the feeling. My first tank of gas I averaged 10mpg as well. I'm on my second tank now and up to 15.4. I don't think I'll ever hit 20 though, this car is too much fun to drive in Sport. I have a manual and am pretty aggressive.

I'm glad to hear you're up to 15-ish. That is closer to what I was expecting/hoping for. Definitely didn't get this car for the fuel economy. Filling up every two days seems a bit excessive - but for now it is totally worth it until I decide to grow up... although that isn't likely to happen. lol.

My Yukon XL Denali gets about 10, so logic would dictate that a 2-door coupe would do slightly better. I don't drive the Denali quite like the Bimmer though. lol.

Have 2400 miles on mine now. I seek out the branded stations with non-ethanol blended gasoline and average around 22 mpg city and 25.3 mpg highway. I think my black widow likes the pure gasoline better.

Always between 18.5 and 19 mpg for me of mixed city and highway driving. Car has 4500 miles.

17.9 mpg with 6,200 miles on my vert. I have also noticed a dramatic decrease in brake dust on my 2012 650 with 356 wheels as compared to the 2009 with the OEM sport package wheels.

Haha. I switch it over to comfort when I'm sitting in traffic. I can live without the noise then. Second I take off its back on! Just trying to do my part to save the earth... or at least make it sound better.

I'm averaging around 19.4 mpg mixed driving and I use Shell 93 octane exclusively! I was getting 22.1 mpg mixed driving on my 535i and that is a hundred less HP so I think I'm doing pretty good!:D

2400 mi, 18.1 mpg over last 1k - and that is with a very short commute (3 miles one way), highway maybe 30% of the total. I did not reset the mpg on highway alone, but the instant mpg hovers around 25 mpg mark

JONNY: You know me too well! I can't live without the noise - SO ADDICTING!!!

I'm up to 11.4 mpg! Big accomplishment. May have to have a party when I hit the big 15 mpg! lol

I finally did a bit of non-lead-footed highway the other day, and I got about 16.5 mpg. This trip brought my overall mpg up to a whopping 12.7 mpg. On this tank I've already done 195 miles, and it still says I have 100 miles remaining - my range has been about 190 to 200 miles. Quite an improvement overall, I think :)

LMAO

I'm getting about 14 in the city and I have not been on a freeway. I think I am around 1,900 miles now.

Hey, at least it's a small tank. I filled the Porsche up the other day and it clicked at $80.01. But in Houston, oil is king. Like Wanda Sykes would say, "Oil and gas paid for the oil and gas."

Just saw this and found it interesting. This is a screen shot from the M5 review on Top Gear (http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=660591). According to the dash on that car, it is getting approximately 15.2 mpg, and it has just over 1900 miles on it. I'm currently at about 1300 miles, and my average (according to the computer) is 12.5 mpg (slightly lower calculated manually). The M5 gets 160 hp more and still gets that mileage! My thoughts are that a great percentage of those 1900 miles are pushing it pretty hard on a track given it's a test vehicle (although I could be way off on this assumption).

I don't mean to sound like I'm obsessing over my mileage (because, trust me, if I were I'd be easier on the throttle :) ), but I was pretty impressed with the economy (doesn't seem like the right word here lol) that the M5 is getting. I guess that was one of the main reasons they went with the twin turbo V8 instead of the naturally aspirated V10.

First tank of gas....18.5 mpg!
However, I will admit that I'm driving the car in comfort mode with my pregnant wife in the car. I'm sure next week will be a different story.

Blue Ridge Parkway driving. I'll admit it's cheating. I've got a lot of interstate driving today.

Wow. Very impressive. I really want to know if there is a difference in fuel consumption between Sport and Comfort or if it is just the noise the car makes (aside from drivetrain, chasis, etc.) that kills my fuel economy - kinda like how studies have shown rock music to encourage aggressive driving.

The car really gets decent mileage if you try really hard to use conservative throttle, brake only when absolutely necessary, and coast as much as possible. I'd like to see how many mpg I could get out of a tank by doing this... but I'm still in the honeymoon phase and don't want to drive so boringly for a week and a half lol.

Has the added MPG been a consistent experience? I'm interested if I should be doing the same.

After driving mostly interstates from Asheville to Durham, my mileage improved slightly. As I said, I'm sure next week will be worse.

You can first do a taste test. However, usually on the side of the pump there is a sign that will say something like "contains up to 10% ethanol."

I swear I think ethenol burns off quicker. I noticed it with my last 6. I usually used Shell, but Chevron seems to last longer. It definitely could be in my mind.

Nope. Apparently not. My dad has me keep track of all of it, and he pays for my gas, so I don't have much of a choice. Kinda glad he makes me as the numbers are intriguing... easily entertained, party of one
