I've got about 8500 miles on my GT. It'll be due by time for an oil change in another 60 days. It went from saying I had 8000 miles left until service, to now where it's informing me I'm 33000 miles overdue for service.

Systems check indicates all okay, engine oil level is good. Even weirder, I get a green check on brakes and it says something like change at 32000 miles... a little inconsistent. Everything has been running just fine and no glitches in the computer otherwise.

Is this unusual? Should I just live with the car complaining until it's time to go in?

I would definately at least call the dealer up and ask them what's going on. It's probably just a s/w glitch, but it could be one of the many sensors that detected something, even if momentarily. The computer stores at least some of them, and it may shed some light on it.

Called up the service department. I'm not the only one. The rep said that it started a few weeks ago and he's been getting a steady stream of calls. They can go in and reset the service intervals in the computer, but it could go crazy again since there isn't a fix from BMW yet.

So I'm thinking wait until the normal annual service and hopefully there's a software update out by then.

Interesting...

My year will be up in April, and I'll not have driven far enough to need oil by then. I have about 10K on it now, and it still says service in 9K required.

Just happened to me. Says I'm due for service since 36k miles but I've only got 17k miles on the odo.

Oh man, I hope you're able to get the problem addressed!

magnumforc had a lot of problems with his GT and attributed it to a software problem. Check out his threads.....

It's only a service reminder. I can live with it for a couple of months until it needs scheduled maintenance.

I'd bring the car in just to make sure, and have them try a reset. The service due reminder would drive me nuts, but that's just me. I just hope it's not a harbinger of other software "glitches".

Called the service rep this morning. He said not to worry about it. I'm not going to either.

The message just showed up on mine and I only have 7900 miles on it.

I've got 36k miles on my 2010 550i GT now, so this error has happened 3 times so far in the last 16 months. Now, I did have to have the battery replaced in my car too (and yes, I obviously drive over 100 miles a day). Warranty did pick that up. Not sure how to explaine the maintenance service message interval, but it's just another endearing BMW thing I think. LOL.

I just turned 20k miles on the odometer but my car tells me it was due for service back at 80,000 miles.

Strange...have you checked your service reminder page to see if there's something weird stored there? It has places for things like your annual inspection, and other things. If one of those spots got populated with something weird, you might get that weird alert.

No but that's a good tip. It's due for annual service next month anyway.
