I'm considering taking European Delivery. How do you plan a vacation around it? Do they give you a specific day that your car will be ready for pickup? Better yet, can you specify the day if given enough notice?

Thanks,

You should be able to specify the day if you give enough notice, but even then you might have to be flexible by a day or so.

I ordered mine about 8-9 weeks before picking it up and was able to get the car 3 days before I really wanted, but was flexible enough in my vacation planning to have it not be a problem (I orginally wanted to pick the car up on a Friday, arrive Thurs and spend 10 days in Europe) I ended up arriving on a Monday, picked the car up on Tues and left the following Tues.

It all depends on the time of year and if there are any slots available for the day you want when you put your deposit down. And if they can't give you the day you want, they should give you a choice of 2-3 other days near that date.

I'd get the delivery date locked in and then make your other arrangements.

Good Luck!

I am also looking to do ED. My local dealer told me that for a July delivery I should look to place the deposit in April. Here is the main question I have...do I have to lock in the purchase price in April (in my case), or do the negotiations take place in June when I have to pay for the car? What if the dealer is being inflexible and I want to go to another dealer?

Thanks.

The ED forum on the 'Fest would be your BEST resource for information on ALL aspects of ED  . From ordering, to airline, hotels, where to go, what to eat, what to avoid.. Along with a huge variety of write ups for ppl who went though ED

Negotiate a price of $XXXX.00 over ED invoice. Then if the invoice price goes up your price would go up by just that much. I believe you are protected for a certain amount of time once you sign your deal. We'll need someone else to chip in on that one.

Yes, your delivery day is set well in advance. Very rarely, BMW might have to change it. If you have to delay it, they can usually accomodate you. Moving up the delivery date after it has been set is harder.

First check the ED Forum for all you want to know about ED.

In my case, I scheduled an ED right around model year change. Since BMW Germany never decides on the price until around Oct., I negotiated a discount from ED price and when the price list came out, I got the same $'s off. Actually in my case it made no difference since the 05 price was the same as the 04 price. ;)

Read this link, it is the best summary of the ED process/experience I've seen:

You should consider picking the car up the day after your flight arrives. It's nice to relax at the hotel and sightsee a little before the big day. Just a suggestion....jet lag affects everyone differently.
