BMW announced that the My BMW Remote app is available for Apple iOS devices beginning today. This app allows many BMW customers to access remote features for their vehicle by using their mobile device and the power of BMW Assist. These features include remotely locking and unlocking of doors, getting the location of their parked vehicle, and sending Google Local Search results to their vehicle. Additionally, some customers will even be able to send a command to sound the horn or flash the headlights of their BMW.

Customers who have an active BMW Assist Safety Plan, a compatible vehicle, and an Apple device running iOS 4.0 or later will be able to download the app to their device starting today via the Apple iTunes store. No changes are required to their BMW. My BMW Remote operates on the customer***8217;s mobile device, sending remote commands to their BMW.

My BMW Remote includes the following functions in detail:

Vehicle Position ***8211; If the vehicle***8217;s ignition is off, and it is located within 0.6 miles (1km) of the mobile device, the current vehicle location can be displayed on a map in the mobile device:

Does anyone know if the Android platform will be supported in the future?

You use your BMW assist login info, not bmwusa. It should be the email address your dealer setup bmw assist with, and password which is usually your last name.

Not working for me.
The App gives me the following error msg, anyone knows how/where to fix it? It seems to accept my BMWassist account/password just fine, but it appears to check some kind of security question I guess.

"ERROR: Secret knowledge might not be activated. Please go to ConnectedDrive portal to activate your secret knowledge."

Where in the world should the secret knowledge is? That is not the one in BMWusa/MyBMW either.

Help please. :)

Everytime I try to login, I get the following message:

"Your Account Has Been Locked, Please contact the ConnectedDrive Hotline"

I called BMW Assist and the only reccommendation they could make was to reset my password and try again in 24 hours. I went through this process twice with them, both times with no luck. Anyone else have this problem, and know a way to resolve it?

Problem logging onto your BMW app, try doing a an update of the app database in the car. after several lockout messages, that did it for me. now the app works like a champ

Anti-theft warning is not activated when car is licked?

Does it need to?

That car will be worn out YEARS before someone could steal it via licking.

How would one update the app database in the car? You mean go into COnnected Drive then service status and then update?

Cool App. . . . took me a while to get the password right and find the paperwork from my CA on the accoutn info.

Only thing I don't like is the limitation on vehile position:
Vehicle Position If the vehicle's ignition is off, and it is
located within 0.6 miles (1km) of the mobile device, the current
vehicle location can be displayed on a map in the mobile device

I wish you could track the location regardless of the distance you are from the vehicle

You do know that apple created the OS for android. So they get a good percentage in profits for every Droid sold.

Plus they just sold their 25 billionth app and counting.

Is it fair to say that you stated the above to joke? Or are you just wrong?

It's your choice to not believe me, but apple has said this multiple times at their WDC's, and it's be blogged about for a while.

Prove that apple ever claimed it. I don't believe it.

First of all I never use Wikipedia, because that information is never verified, and anyone can put anything on there.

I have several sources, but since I'm on a business trip. I'm not able to pull them all up since my internet connection is very slow.

Here is a quote from the CEO of Nokia, Stephen Elop; "Apple and its "closed" iOS that created Android: "Apple created Android, or at least it created the conditions necessary to create Android."

In a keynote speech that Steve Jobs hosted before his death. He said that there were 5 operating systems out there. iOS, AOS, blackberry, windows, and one I can't remember. This was in a pie chart. He then went on to show another pie chart with iOS and AOS combined and said that due to Apple helping create the Droid OS that the iOS was 95% +/- the cell phone market, and apple is the leading handheld OS out there.

Yet here we have you unable to offer ANY citation ... Not exactly compelling.

I'm more than slightly skeptical of this.

I don't concede this was even stated as offered here, but if it was, it seems to me that it means that Apple's closed system inspired others to develop an open alternative, NOT that Apple had anything to do with that development.

While semantically correct as stated, the intent was as has been said above - Apple created the conditions for the need to create an alternative - hence Android. There is no Apple/Android OS.

Referenced speech details here:

Wow I guess it's true. "Can't cure ignorance." If you are that closed minded please just don't continue the discussion.

This is incorrect and remains so even if the original poster has unsubscribed. May be a misunderstanding or erroneous source, but the above statement is not correct.
