I've just bought a 2003 X5 with the sport and premium package. Is it normal for the steering to be tougher than most cars? It seems like it's a lot stiffer than other cars I drive. Just checking to see if it's normal.

Thanks,
jeff

It's a BMW. BMW's steering is much stiffer than their competitors in their respective price range. Welcome to what we bimmerfiles love.

Yes, normal and desired.

The 2004s have Servotronic as an option, which does give one that soggy, disconnected, overboosted feel that many Americans associate with quality.

I thought Servotronic allowed the wheel just one turn to go lock to lock?

You also have the wider tires with the SP, hence the steering will feel stiffer. You could always downsize to narrower tires if the steering if too stiff but why? :tsk:
