: Why did the 6, 7 and 8 series get merged?

It was already hard enough distinguishing posts about the new 6 from posts about its much older 80's relative. Now we have to wade through 7's and 8's posts too?

I believe the decision to merge certain forums was based off of the volume of posts that a forum receives, so we can bring readability and overall community participation up. Since not everyone reads Bimmerfest using "View New Posts", the trick is avoiding "dead" forums.. ones where people don't post because nobody else visits it.

You may notice that even after the merge, there are only 342 threads combining all the posts regarding the 6, 7 and 8 series. These cars also represent niche market segments and the total number of owners represented will never be as high as more mainstream models, like the 3 and 5 series.

That said, if the 6er forum does prove to be a popular forum, the addition of a dedicated 6er forum is not out of the question. I'm sure an administrator can shed more light on the recent forum reorganization.
