So I have 2007 550 with 77,000. I'm replacing second one under the warranty, because it's leaking slow, well it’s like a little wet on the cylinder. Each unit around is 1,400 dollars. Maybe because it was a new technology back 2006, so the seals were used is not as good as 2009 +. It's leaking under seal where shaft entering to cylinder.
My suggestion to everyone is to check while under warranty. Just crawl underneath the car and touch the cylinder, if it wet then it’s ready for replacement.

yes. i had one replaced under warranty. quite expensive.

Since you've replaced two, what would you say is the life span of this part? Given the price, I wonder if it's rebuildable.

I wonder same, if any shop could rebuilt it. I think it should simple with right tools.

Dealer says they can be a problem. Leaks and something about a pump.

I had my front replaced under CPO last month- It worked fine, and the SA stated that it would continue to work fine (with the seep at the electrical connector it had). But they offered me a free one, installed, so obviously I took it. Bill to BMW was $1700.

All hydraulic actuators are rebuildable unless you have scoring on the shaft.

thanks for all replay but we will need more information to help other people if they want to buy with sport suspension. Because soon enough cars will be out of warranty.

I think mine had a little dust collecting on that end (I suspect very small leak) but I'll worry about it until I had to top PS fluid on consistent basis.

BTW, I've not seen anyone rebuilding one, looks like the o-ring seal leaks but the actuator itself is still working.

Yep. You won't find many DIY on hyd actuator or cylinder rebuild as most needs specialized tools, esp if they have cryogenic bushings. In Everett you'll find a few specialists, possibly due to Boeing's proximity. And also the rebuild cost can be prohibitive on a low $$$ car device like this. The thing about those actuator seepage is that they can mean the shaft seal broke or the packing o-ring rolled and from that point, it is just a matter of time.
