NO WAY!!!
Yours?!?!?
Yep. Thanks to doeboy for telling me about it (it was listed in the San Diego chapter newsletter) and scottn2retro for giving me a ride down to pick it up.
1988 E24 M6. I believe it's one of the first MY88 produced.
100k miles, 3-owner car with fairly complete history since new.
It has some rather minor mechanical and cosmetic issues, but I wasn't looking for a concours car, either. Had it up over 100MPH and was rock solid.
Congratulations!!!!
Wow, that's truly awesome. You've lusted after these forever, yes?
Great to see a dream come true. WooHoo!
So, is this in lieu of, or in addition to, the shaggin wagon?

Wow, nice! :str8pimpi
I'd guess it was repainted judging from how nice the paint on the front end is? Looks clean. Awesome color too.
Here we go: :bigpimp:

 M6:wow: And you don't suck for buying it, just for telling us how good it felt at 100 mph.
I'll take more pics when I work something out with the wheels. These look like ones I've seen on early E36 coupes, though with proper offset. The car originally came with TRX (metric) BBS wheels, which were included, but I have no plan on using those, since tires are hard to come by. A friend has a set of BBS RS 3pc wheels that I'm trying to get him part with, but in the meantime he also has a set of OE BBS from a E38 that he'll sell me cheap. It'll look far better with those.
The paint is original. It still has the M tricolor pinstripes (yes, pinstripes. Remember this was the 80s) that the dealer put on. It's generally in really good shape, though there are a few areas with noticeable scratches, and the front is quite pitted. The older paint seems to chip in much smaller pieces than modern BMW paint, though.
The wagon will remain my daily. I don't think I could afford to daily a 16-year-old M car. :yikes:

Congratulations Kaz ! That is awesome. I am very happy to see that you finally made it. The car is a true beauty.
I am also very glad to see that the car will be in the hands of someone who can take very good care of it.
Way to go ! :)

Very nice and enjoy.
But keep in mind there's no 50/50 weight distribution with these old M6's; it's more like 60/40.

What a beaut! Always liked the M6... congratulations!
Thanks, everyone. It was a family friend's E24 that got me hooked on BMWs when I was a kid, so it feels good to finally have one of my own. Some of the ergonomics and idiosyncracies of a car originally designed around the time I was born :yikes: take a little getting used to, but there is no mistaking the lineage between this and my E46.
I plan on keeping it relatively stock, though since the stereo needs a little work (couple of the speakers appear to be blown), I may do something about that. A CD radio from a Z3 to replace the cassette/changer seems like a good idea, but they seem to go for $$$$ ($400 :yikes: ) on eBay. I already mentioned the wheel situation, and the shocks seem a bit soft. The shifter is a bit borked so on top of fixing it I want to see if a E36M3 one will shorten things up.
I gassed it up, and also got it added to my insurance policy this morning, and guess which one is going to be cheaper annually? :tsk:

It may be old, but it's not an Audi :).
IIRC BMW static weight distribution has never been further out than about 55/45. No reason it should be, whether the car is new or old...
Well Kaz, you're right- you do suck! :D
That's awesome. Congrats and enjoy.

Please post more pictures (with better lighting) when you get the chance.
Beautiful car. Never see one so nice in Toronto.
Yeah, not too many rusty old cars in SoCal. It's a good perk of living here.
Congrats Kaz, beautiful M6!!! Is that color "Montreal Blue"...?

No, this is Royal Blue. I believe it's a bit more purplish than Montreal, but I haven't seen very many Montreal cars out there. US-spec cars only came in 3 exterior (black, Cinnabar Red, Royal Blue met) and 3 interior (Lotus White, Natur, Silver Grey) colors. Canadian cars came in a few more, and of course euros even more than that.

Congrats Kaz! The paint looks to be in really good condition.
And yes, those rims are from the E36 sports package. Hmm... if you decide to get new rims and don't want those any longer... I think I may be able to convince Layla that she may want an extra set of track rims/tires. :D

The offset for this car is supposed to be in the 20s, so I don't know if these are replicas in a different offset (they'd be closer to 40 on a E36) or what (I don't see any spacers), but when they come off, I'll definitely let you know. I did see a E36 coupe at work this morning and they're definitely the same-looking.

Having seen the car myself, I agree. Car seems to have been pretty well cared for. Great color for that car - even better than red.

Looks great and I love the dark blue color anyway... With regards to the BBS Rims, my friend Peter's father has a 635csi and a M6 (crashed)... I know the car is sitting in the garage for about a year now but maybe he is parting with the rims... unfortunatly they are in the Netherlands... (maybe ship them by boat...) :p

Congrats Kaz, looks like a boatload of fun. Any chance you can post some interior pics. I love seeing the ergo evolution of the '80s cars to today.

The $$$$ parts on 6ers are trim and interior pieces, because the mechanicals are shared with the E28 (millions of those) but the body and interior is unique.
A totaled E24 is probably worth more as a parts car.

Maybe he can CON you and Paul into "prepping" that car for O'Fest Concours/Clean Car Contest.
I won't even have time to enter my own M Roady this year, but I think if Kaz starts working on the small cosmetic items now, I don't see any reason why we couldn't have him in position to be a class winner by next April

That's why he is keeping the wreck to part it out for the other car...
