LOL. They seem to like Spoonface as much as I do!
1. 2004 and a closely fought Monaco Grand Prix is being led under the Safety Car by Michael Schumacher. He’s anxious to get away quickly after the restart because he’s a ******** down on closest rivals Jarno Trulli and Jenson Button. Then, going through the tunnel, round a bend, in low grip conditions because of lack of downforce, and*in the dark, he decides to jam his brakes on to get some heat into the tyres. The following Juan Montoya has nowhere to go and collides with him.
Back in the pitlane, an angry Schumacher takes his Schuberth helmet off and* hundreds of millions of fans worldwide can see that he has donkey ears on.

They forgot Juan Pablo Montoya's brain fart in Melbourn last year.
Leading a race with less than 10 laps to go, with no body even within his rear view mirror, Juan inexplicably spun the car and let 2 crucial points by.
I agree that it was a brain fart, but DC was definitely closing the gap substantially. He wasn't *right* behind him, but JPM had to be well aware of the rate at which DC was catching him.
If Juan hadn't spun, the last few laps would've been mighty interesting.
Similarly, he did the same in Canada too. Spun leading onto the pit straight. Then at the end of the race, he, Ralf and Michael were all in lock-step, the lot covered by about 2 seconds. Think his spin might've cost him the win? Yep.

The Andrea DeCesaris one really cracked me up. :)
I remember the Fisi one, too. The Benetton boys must've got a pretty good laugh out of that one.

I couldn't agree more with how boneheaded it was for Alonso to smack the tire in Brazil. Smiliarly, Fisi blazing into a thick bank of coolant smoke on the tightest F1 track currently run...
This made me laugh. I hadn't heard about it.
8=. At the first race of the 2002 season Giancarlo Fisichella came into the pitlane to practise ********s. He pulled up outside the Renault garage, but his mechanics didn’t seem interested.
They weren’t interested because he’d changed teams over the winter and was now driving a Jordan. They quite rightly pointed out that he’d do better stopping at the Jordan garage.
(Luckily for Fisi he wasn’t the first modern F1 driver that had happened to…)

I seem to recall another one from way back... some Ferrari driver (can't remember who) was winning the Monaco GP and as he came on the final front straight, he came up to the pit wall to wave to his crew and everyone.... and slowed the car to near stop.... little did he know the finish line was actually still a little bit ahead.... :eeps:

Andrea de Cesaris was a legend. IMO, he was the most dumbest F1 driver of all time. Those who has watched him will know. Almost in every race, he had managed to block someone and was angry at the race marshalls, when they waved the blue flag at him.

Hmm... I don't recall that in an F1 Ferrari...
But Bjorn Wirdheim -- Jag's current test driver -- did that in a red F3000 car at Monaco last year. He stopped like that and Nicholas Kiesa went past as Wirdheim's crew were waving at him to keep going.
What a brain fart! :D

I remember the announcers on US television (I think it was actually Bob Varsha back when F1 was on ESPN2), used to call him Andrea de Crasheris. :D

I guess it would have been too much to have Alonso on the list twice, but his attempted pass of Ralf in the tunnel this year sure ranks up there as a bonehead move!

Actually, that was last year or the year before (last year I think). But it wasn't F1. It was F3000. The bonehead ran away with the race only to pull this stupid stunt and throw away the win by something like 50 meters.

Ah... ok... thanks for the clarification... I knew I saw the footage of it sometime on TV but must've gotten the details mixed up... :)

It's been said that Alex's English is better than that of most Americans. I agree. And in view of that, it seems inappropriate to point out his infrequent errors, IMHO.

Yeah, I figured I take some slack in doing so but in no way did I mean anything by it. I know English is not his native language and therefore continually pointing out errors would be silly.
I am a language teacher by trade so we all get on each other's nerves by joshing each other's language...with no offense of course. No offense meant.
But I'm not taking back the comment about Tifosi... :D

The Fisichella story is the best I've heard. Might have been slightly funnier if Benetton had taken his tires off and put the same ones back on...just for practice.

Fair enough. I just don't like anyone to be made fun of...in any way. Other boards thrive on that kind of behavior and I hope this one never gets to that point. :)

Yep. I wasn't making fun of him or anyone else for that matter.
Maybe it's just a knee-jerk goofball reaction that we language teachers have amongst bilinguals... :) Sorry if anyone took it in the wrong way.

Or rotated them - front to back.
