Is it just me, or does the Mercury Montego look like the old Euro-spec Ford Scorpio? I'm not talking about the Merkur Scorpio that they tried to sell here, but i just remember seeing pics of a car Ford sold in Eurpoe that looked a lot like this:

Doesn't exactly look like a new design.
I think it's you. The new squareish lights seem to be a new Mercury thing. The car itself, IIRC, is on the Mazda6 platform

Actually, the Montego and Ford Five Hundred are based off the Volvo S80/S60 platform...
There's another, smaller Ford and Mercury coming that will be based off the Mazda6... Still don't know why they don't just bring over the current Mondeo...

Ford is gunshy now. They tried that with the previous Mondeo (Contour/Mystique). Horrible flop here in NA.

Probably because it was cow flop! :D My in-laws had a '96 or '97 Contour; it seemed to spend more time in the shop with electrical and cooling gremlins than on the road.
