BMW has posted detailed instructions on how to install the Navigation retrofit for cars equiped with option 6UA (Navigation Prep). The procedure is relatively easy and BMW quote that it will take 2.25hrs of labor. As part of the update the MASK is replaced by a CCC, the CID is replaced with the 8" display and the voice button is added on the IDrive controller.

Ask your dealer to refer to BMW document EBA 51889 on the BMW ASAP portal.

Would I be correct in assuming that the "Nav Prep" opition would be listed on the sticker? Also, any idea how much this would cost?

The option was free and was offered starting on or around the Nov-03 production. It should be listed on the BMW printout. But if in doubt call BMW NA and give them your VIN# and they'll tell you if your car as Nav pre wiring. If it doesn't forget about a retrofit it isn't possible.

Only cars built in November and December 2003 have the pre-wiring. Cars built prior to November have no NAV options available, and cars built after December had NAV available from the factory.
