Hi everyone. I've reached that moment. Keep or sell? This is my frst 7 (used) after many other (always new) BMWs 3, 5, Z3, Z4, X5, etc. So here's the deal, 750Li 2006, just turned 60K miles. Luxury seating, Comfort Acess, Rear DVD, Logic 7 just to mention a few. Have had it since Feb 2010. Since then I've done services like oil, rear brakes, filters, etc $2,220. New battery $443.74. New Rear Rim 637.83. Sunroof leak fiasco $1,323.20. Tinted windows 307.35. Under warranty had 3 door handles for Comfort Access replaced, Engine gaskets replaced a $5,577 job covered under warranty. New headliner. Also under warranty AC condensor replaced.

Will need new 4 tires like now, so I'm thinking another $1200?

I have until Feb 2013 covered by the extended warranty. Car owes about 11K. So I'm thinking now, should I keep it and continue the $$$ or should I just trade it now?

Trying to make a decision before I get the tires which I need like I mentioned before like now.

What do you guys think? Am I crazy trading it after spending so much, or am I crazy for keeping knowng that I will continue spending? I love how this car drives which well all of you know...

Thanks

Keep till Dec. Sell 2 months before warranty expires. Buy tires now. You will be riding those tires for 6 months. You will end up coming ahead by waiting. I just listed my car today as my CPO expires in 3 months and I have not spent any money other than 2 rear tires.

Buy a set of used tires. Many shops around here have them from 200-300 for all four. No way I would spend 1200 on a car I am not going to keep.

I bought 4 pirelli tires from eBay each separately to make a set. 70% tread on all 4 cost me less than the price of 1 Pirelli tire.

Thanks to all for the advice. Makes sense to wait I guess. For tires I dont feel comfortable getting used tires. After all my family is riding in the car. So TireRack has the Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 for 678 for 4 tires. I guess thats better than 1200. I'm also taking the car into a BMW dealer today just to see how much would they give me as a trade. Just want to have an idea. I'll let you guys know.

Yea used tires, prob not. Def a nice new set of hankooks is the way to go also price out the falkens. Id say trade your loooking at about 18k plus tax savings. i would keep it unless your really looking into something else.

To keep it, what would you do after the warranty expires in Feb?

Thanks

The hankooks have an $80 mail in rebate on tire rack. You should be able to get around $20,000, maybe $21,000 on trade.

I say dump it now and forget the tires.

I was offered 22K for trade. 51K miles, however it is 750i. May be you are getting more because of LI. Do you have sports package?

No I don't. Still thinking about it. Somehow its hard to give up the 7. As painfully $$$$wise as it is... :eeps:

I would advertise the car for sale now. You give more time and possibly can get more money. The car may sell immediately or take a while. You do not want to sell a car out of warranty. Longer warranty makes for a better sale. I would rather buy a car with a 9 month warranty then a 3 month. Also I would put new tires if selling privately. Have car detailed in and out.

My thinking is this, I also thought of a new 550i sport or a newer 750i sport. Either way the car is going to cost me about 60k, even if i got 30k for mine is it worth the extra 30k?? To me right now its not.

If you're ever gong to trade it now is the time. The offer amount will only go down from here. If i owed 11k and could get 23k sell or trade, I'd take it and get a used M5 or another 7, F01/02 style.

You decision is heavily dependent on what you want to buy. If you are buying brand new car I agree trade now. If you are buying used 7 you should wait. With more cars coming off lease in next few months prices are bound to drop on f01/02.

Thats not normal. Maybe on a ford focus, and even then. With used tires you never know what your getting could be a shot tire thats noisy as hell. You do realize that since you bought 4 separate tires the tread depth will never be the same on all wheels. Only time I would consider used tires is if its a lease and instead of getting charged for new tires at return you can put on some used tires. If you cant afford new tires, then driving a bmw...... you get the point.

True, so sell for 23k now and wait a few months. When the 2013's hit the road the 09-12 model's price should drop significantly, then move into one of those.

Do you have a warranty on yours? If I kept mine, then dont know what to do after Feb. when my warranty expires.

My warrty is actually up in July. I feel your pain as ive been contemplating myself. However I just cant justify a 30k diff for a warrty. Im going to risk it, i wouldnt buy one without a warrty but I'll keep mine that ive owned with no warrty.

Ok, 7 is gone. I did the trade in. I got a 2012 528i. Sports pkg. etc. 9 miles in the odometer. :) Was going for another 7 but in the end decided to save some money and recoup from the hemorrhage of $$$ spent on the 7. I will definitely miss it. Will not miss the spending. Still have not driven any other car that drives and feels the way the 7 does. Thanks to everyone for your help with all of my questions and issues with the 7...

Thanks again...

Sounds like a heavy downgrade! But how much did you get for your 7? And if you don't mind me asking, what was the asking price on the 528?

Yes I know. 8 to 4. I knew you guys were going to go like are u crazy? Well there a reason to my madness, a master plan if you may. See my wife loves that car, so eventually she will want to drive it all of the time, so then I would be able to go get a newer 7...

Anyway, here's a picture...

Hi guys. Ok, I guess my "master plan" has been destroyed by my wife, :( Yesterday we ended up getting her a 2012 E350 BlueTec (Diesel). What is it with women and Mercedes? :dunno:

So as you all know a happy wife means a happy life... :)

My quest to return to the 7 series will take me a little longer now...

Hey no bashing on my beloved I6 engine. It's the same engine as in my 530i, and I love it. Perfect long-distance car, very economical and at the same time, it's very dynamic. The car is NOT slow, and it being a 5 series, handles better than the 7er so overall you have great fun driving it.

The e60 530i goes 6.4 0-60 stock, which is only half a second slower than the 750. Mine is a wee-bit modded tho so it's actually in the 6.2ish ;) and I will bet some serious money it will kick any 750 ass on the track due to it being more agile, braking later before a curve, higher curve speed.

Congrats on your purchase, enjoy the car!

Good for you, but another option after the warranty is gone is to find a good indie. My maintenance/repair bills are now running 25% of what the dealer charged. Sure, there are some things you need to go back to them for, but the thing is, the older your car, the smaller the list.

Wow man! A brand new BMW and Mercedes? Give me some of that lottery money you won! Haha just playing.

Congrats on both purchases and good luck in your goal of owning a newer 7. I'm sure it will happen one day :D
