I was doing some electrical work on my car and instead of psychically disconnecting the battery I flipped the battery switch off in my trunk(2002 745i,e65).when I was done and I switched it from off to on, and went to start the car. The idrive display comes on, BMW then to the warning screen and then I push accepts. Then all the function or lit up accept for CD. Then went I select radio I canít select any stations and thereís no sound. I called the dealer and they said my model car donít have a code. They wanted to charge me $200 +tax to fix. Is there a work around to get this fixed instead of going to the dealer? The switch in my truck can be viewed in the pictures or links up above. PLEASE HELP I-DRIVE HAS NO SELECTION AND NO SOUND JUST DISPLAY. Thanks in advance :thanks:

Did you take out any fuses? The car has a fiber network that links all of the modules that function in idrive. If one module is not functional because it is broken or missing the fuse the entire idrive system will not work. Sounds like that's whats happening to you.

Take a tester to the fuses.. see if you blew any

disconnect the negative battery terminal for 10 mins, and replace. Sounds like a module in the MOST bus is not waking up. Pulling the power will reset everything.

The switch you are referring to just tells the power module to go into low power mode. you use this if you are going on holiday or not using the car for a couple of weeks. It does not disconnect the battery.

Hope this helps

I will try all these things except the battery pull in scared that Iíll have to take it to the dealer after that. But I was told to try jumping every one of them with a jumper one by one

If youre scared to pull your battery then just take your car straight to the dealership. You cannot be paranoid about working on this car and if just pulling your battery caused you additional problems then you need to get rid of that car ASAP. I have pulled my battery a few times without issues.

If you truly want to reset the modules in your car then pull the battery. It may not fix your issue but it should not cause new ones.

+1

I have pulled the battery 4 times now, and the first time I done it the automatic steering wheel retraction started working! It hadn't worked since I owned the car!

Problem with this car is the number of modules each with their own software, a lot of the modules don't actually turn off they go into power save or sleep mode.

Pulling the battery shouldn't cause you any issues, it will reset everything in the car. It's worth a go!

Right off in photo 1 I see a fuse missing, I think that's the radio. You might check.

Pulling the negative lead off the battery is no big deal, disconnecting fuses has caused me more problems like the navigation not working, no cd player, cd changer just started loading CDs and never stopped, ect.

I recommend that you look at all the fuses, where there are leads on the top and bottom means this is a circuit and there should be a fuse

Try resetting the MOST BUS LOOP... It's in your glove compartment ... Its little flip down door .... Disconnect it for ten seconds .... This controls all your I drive selections
