Hi all. I have an 08 750i sport, and I absolutely love how this thing drives. One annoyance is this whistling wind noise when Im doing 80 mph. The dealer has checked it twice, and replaced the sunroof seal and a rear window was reset. The noise has gotten better, but still there. Is this just a design defect?

I think most car will whistle when doing 80. But what you can try is when your doing 80, push the glass up on the sunroof and see if it stops. I get a lot of sun roof noise, most of its because its sagging little (even after doing the reset).

Specifically where is the noise coming from? Sunroof, doors, windshield?

+^+ push up on the glass when it's whistling, you will find where it's conning from. My e38 had the same problem, small slit in the rubber on the windshield

I've opened the sunroof and the whistling noise still occurs. It sounds like it is coming from the windshield ortho right pass area. It does force me not to speed. Lol

I drive the speeds regularly... No noise at all.

+1.

If you know it's coming from the sunroof seal, it's likely where the start and end of the seal meet (at the back end of the sunroof cutout in the middle). The seal probably wasn't cut so that the start and end of the seal completely mash together. If done well there should be zero wind noise. An easy way to test is by putting masking tape over where the seal is around the entire sunroof (and see if the noise goes away).

Our 2006 X5 makes a noise at 55+ mph which sounds like the horns that blared throughout the World Cup in South Africa.

It's coming from the sun roof when it's closed.

When it's open - no noise. EXCEPT WHEN YOU PUSH THE SCREENED WIND FOIL DOWN WITH YOUR HAND. THEN THE NOISE STARTS AGAIN. LET GO AND THE NOISE STOPS.

Anyone else?

Do you realize that you posted to a thread that's been stale for 15 months in a 7-series forum? I doubt you'll get much X5 info here.

But, if its anything like the 7, you need to replace the sunroof seal.
