Dealer quoted $850. This is my 2nd set of front brakes on the car. I didn't ask if that included rotors... not that I don't trust them... but what would a reasonable price from an indy be? Anyone recommend anyone in the Hartford, CT area?

Lets see: (Prices from www.ECStuning.com) for 535xi Sedan

For an OEM job:

OEM rotors (2)...$206
OEM pads (2).....$111
Caliper grease....$001
OEM Sensor.......$021
Labor : 2 hours +/-, if all tools are at disposal.

so.. $339 + (1-2) hrs labor (est) + Shipping if you order it yourself.

If you go to an Indy, you'll surely spend alot less than that dealer quote. Check here for Indy's in your area (http://www.bimmershops.com/near/hartford-ct/)

Indy put front brakes on my 07 550 for $700.

Rotors, pads and sensors.

Indy shop rate is about $110/hr if I recall.

All responses are dead-on, specialized BMW indy nowadays is not much cheaper about 20% less than dealer. You can go to "tree-shade" garage shop but too much risk so I usually DIY on things I can do.

I just want to add one more thing, shop local for rotors; they are heavy even w/o sales tax the S/H is rather costly then you have to deal with UPS/Fedex guys droping the box. I had a rotor that dented a bit since the box was drop along the edge side, no problem but had it been bend more then I had to deal with shipping it back and wait for a new one (would be a waste of time and shipping).
