Today, I was trying to code my car on various thing. While toying FRM module, I clicked save -- validate FA -- code, instead of code FDL.
I got transmission error showing on CID
I lost all settings I changed and I do not know if anything happen to settings I did not change. Anyway, long story short, I tried to load my backup CAF, save it, validities FA, then code FDL. Everything seem to be in order and I re-code FDL everything I changed.
Fingers cross, I hope I restored my original CAF settings as well as my custom settings.
Now, I thought it would be good to remind people. Click Code FDL, not Code.
Would expert on this forum know what does Code do? Also, with what I done to load original CAF file, would it have restored?

This is my understanding..... this may be up for debate...
The button labeled 'Code' is the correct button to use after you have added the option to the VO... and you need to know which ECU's require coding.. thats the tricky part
As long as the CAFD has a green check it is ok to code with it, the 'Code' button updates all the required FDL entries based on the VO and makes them permanent.
The 'Code FDL' only updates the entries you have edited and they are temporary.. meaning that they will revert to original when the ECU is updated by the dealer or if you use the 'Code' button again.
I think the instructions reference a bump in revision and not a full level... for example: the car is at 43.0 and you are using 43.1 in E-Sys.. If you are at a higher level in E-Sys than your car (I'm using 46.3) you most likely won't see the example the instructions talk about.
Was the FRM CAFD selected when you used code, or did you code the entire car?....

I highlighted FRM and click CODE
I hope this mean I only code the FRM module, not the entire car. I hope I hope I hope....
Well at least I know the car is in good order now and that it is working without fault.

I had a go at coding my F25 for the first time today, and I didn't realise that right click "Code" was not Code FDL.
I right clicked the CAFD and clicked "Code" ... its popped up the status dialog and completed without error, but my settings change never got sent to the car ...
I have no idea what that action did ... I hope nothing.
Later once I discovered the Code FDL button, I got my setting to updated successfully.
mjgood, not really knowing what the acronyms all stand for, and more importantly what they represent, I can't make sense of your explanation of Code!
What is VO?
Better still ... is there a nice summary somewhere which doesn't rely on any prerequisite knowledge which can give a description of the various view and actions?

!
What is VO?
VO = Vehicle order = FA = Fahrzeugauftrag
That's the configuration of your car stored in the car itself used for the initial programming.

That will only code FRM... depending on the ECU you will sometimes see an error message while coding which should be gone when finished... If you code KOMBI it will reset the clock and you'll have an error message until the time has been set...
