View Full Version : Should I replace timing chain at 140k

I have an offer to change timing chain plus all gaskets such as timing upper and lower and valve cover gaskets for 1500$ They leak but not bad and i have no problem with timing. Should I do it? Thank you

That price does not sound bad to me. I wouldn't let a leak go unfixed with that mileage.

If it already being taken off then yes. But you should not ever have to replace it. That's the point of it being a chain and not a belt.

I would NOT mess with the timing chain unless you are VERY Familiar with setting it back using variable timing. IMO:dunno:

well chain has tensioner and many other thing which get loose. I may not brake as belt, but it would loose and slip.

I seen that video before another member posted it an says he was charging around 1900.00 labor not including parts to pull engine an fix all leaks I think. So I say go for it.

he said 1500 with parts, but he did not said about alternator bracket, i guess it will be extra.

I do believe that was included not sure I could be wrong but he had the whole motor pulled.

Better replace those guides as well.
If you are going that far, might as well get the heads and valve guides done too for the smoking issue, plus the secondary air ports cleaned out
I pull the engine, redo the heads, reseal the engine and reinstall for 4200.

i would love to,but resale value is low this days that is not worth to put so much money into it. It is unreliable car. You can put money in this car non stop. I have no smoke right know no point to wast money.

Thats a great deal. I just paid 1300 for valve cover gaskets alone.
