Hi,
I was wondering which option is better:
Change Engine Oil with PennzOil Syntech with 7500 Miles by 104$
OR
Change oil at dealer with 15000 miles by 160$ ?
Which one do you prefer best?

Uh, $104?

What do I win?

No seriously, half the service interval if you plan to keep the car a while. Ymmv of course.

$104 for Syntech? I was at customer's place the other day, an indy tech - I asked how much he would do an oil change when I'm out of maintenance, and he quoted $70 and said it would be Syntech - it would be $100 is I wanted BMW oil - you can source the oil - part number 07510017866 from many places online from $5.50 to $8 a quart - your car takes quarts - the filter is $12 and labor would be $30-50 I reckon tops.

The only thing that makes a difference from $70 to $104 would be labor - that's a lot of labor and I think $104 is high for non-BMW oil... it is up to you though...

Thanks for your information. Is it High Performance BMW Full Syntech? And how many miles I can go with this oil?

I honestly don't know much about the Pennzoil Syntech oil - I would do that option myself at $70 and do 7500 miles no problem - at $104 I'd go with the BMW and buy the oil myself and bring it to my indy shop myself - buying 14 quarts at a time, it works out $93 with shipping

I think it is 7 the same as the 535i because it is the same price for a "kit" as mine - but check the "kit" here:

7500 miles between changes at the most.
DO NOT wait until 15K miles. Only bad things can happen.
6000 is even better (there will be more additives still left in the oil and less dirt and gasoline accumulated in the oil).

BMW approved oil can be found everywhere for $5.50-$6.50. Many Walmart stores carry the M1 0W-40, which is what I use, for $6.50 per quart.

If you are not a DIY person , Walmart will even change it for you ($60-$65 with Mobil 1) if you bring your own filter (although I admit you have to be a brave soul to let them wrench on your BMW).

However, in defense of Walmart, I have to say I have had Walmart in Scottsdale, AZ do oil changes in the past on Toyotas, Nissans, Hondas and even a Lexus I owned and have never had an issue with workmanship. Obviously I always check under the car and check the dip stick afterwards, but I do that even when I do oil changes myself. Can't speak for all Walmart stores but here they do a good job.

I agree with previous posters - if you want to pick a BMW Indy, most places won't charge more than $20-25 for labor, so the most you would pay after filter and oil is $80-85.

Thanks, Yes I think it is 7. Is filter in our model under the car or on the car? And where can I put the old oil? Lol
