Hello,
I purchased a AGM battery from oreilly auto because I read a post from another member having the same dynamic drive inactive problem that I was experiencing and the battery was the same price as the dealer diagnostic. I'm trying to get the battery installed but no one wants to install and register it because the battery didn't come from BMW. Can someone tell me the difference between a BMW battery &AGM battery? Or are they trying to get over because I'm a female ......btw the BMW battery from the dealer was $600.00

Although I cannot help you with your issue, can I ask why you purchased the aftermarket battery instead of the suggested OEM battery? Plus, I am fairly certain the battery should only be $500 from the dealer, which is what I was quoted on not more then 2 weeks ago here in Colorado.

The aftermarket agm battery was $175 shipped & and bmw belair quoted $590. Do you know if ther's adifference performance wise? or just a preference?

The battery will need to be programmed once installed. BMW uses 49AGM (I think)

I believe it may be preference, but it may also be due to the fact that the BMW battery is a HIGH VOLTAGE battery, compared to most aftermarket batteries which apparently are not. I personally have a aftermarket in mine, which according to the dealer, is actually causing most if not all of my electrical/iDrive issues.

Also note that the OEM batteries are tuned specifically for your vehicle, which I believe to be an advantage of purchasing despite it's hefty price. And sorry about your quoted battery price :(

the battery purchased is a 49agm which is the same type of battery the dealer uses. I'm crossing my fingers that it works.

just make sure the cold cranking amps match and your good

if the cold cranking amps match

it will work

just need to register the battery with the car ..

you will need a good indy or dealer .. not every indy shop will have bmw level software to go into the battery module keep that in mind before dishing out more $

It will work fine then. But you will need to take it in to have the battery programmed to the car.

I am a recent owner of a 2002 745i and to have replaced the battery.. Bought a Interstate "blem" group 49 AGM $60.00! Had my mechanic friend register the battery with no problem. Researched it heavily and the correct group AGM will work.

Interstate battery will work. Providing that the amps are equal or greater. I have had one in mine since 2009. As far as programing it to car most indy's who work on bmw's car do it

Sent from my R800at using Bimmer App

The O'Reilly battery will work fine. I installed mine a couple of years ago after reading a DIY from Keif (with pictures). You can find his installation procedure on this thread at http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=419230. There is a link in the post to his photos on Flickr.

I then registered it with INPA. There is a thread in the DIY at http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=544419.

I don't think BMW actually makes batteries, they contract it out to other manufacturers who make it to their specs. Those manufacturers will also make the same battery with different brand stickers on them. If you look at the O'Reilly battery and the BMW battery, they look the same and the O'Reilly battery registers and works great. I haven't had any problems.

Good luck!

Incidentally, when I picked up the battery it was load tested at 1000cca with a 1 year warranty.

Guys relax. Any AGM group 49 battery will work. There is no magic involved or "special high voltages" LOL. The caveat here is that YOU HAVE TO REGISTER the battery. "Register" is a term used by BMW to allow the onboard computers to adjust voltages to the varying equipment and charge rates. Failing to register the battery will cause charging at a higher rate than neccesary since the computer is compensating for the previous battery which will cause early failure of the battery and can cause wonky electrical gremlins. I used a Walmart battery on my wife's bimmer 3 years ago and it's been purring nicely ever since.

And that is what you have in there now? And does anyone know a franchise place that maybe does BMW programming?

I recently had my 49AGM battery replaced for $240 installed and registered by my INDY, I have to say I am lucky to have an INDY here in West Palm Beach that doesn't rape me with the hourly rate.

I wish I was still down there. I had an indy just outside of West Palm that did amazing work on my tranny and suspension.

I went the same issue, with my battery.since the car was slugish at starting.i did not want to leave my wife stranded for $580.00. That what i paid for the battery and registering it at bmw riverside.save the time of getting stranded and calling a tow truck.
