Hello everyone,

I'm starting a group buy for ODB-2 software and interface. Click on the link for more info about the product.

http://www.obd-2.com

After purchase the core ODB-2 software, you can download from their site the BMW specific add on module.

Normal price is $122, with 15 buyers participated in this group buy, we can knock the price down to $85, shipping included in the US, international users add $4 for shipping.

You can also purchase a combo (multiple car codes) for just a bit more, please read the following paragraph that I received from ODB-2 sales person:

"
Quantity group buy discount is 2% per quantity up to 30% off any scan tool mix or match, example 10 is 20% off. 15+ = 30% off = 122 -30% = $85 for ISO model, add $4 ship outside USA. Can provide special web order link. Will need total list of names and or emails. Can also ship all to you or individuals.
Trican scan tool is max. of 25% off."

Please email me if you're interested, once I've got all 15 or more users, I will close the registration then contact ODB-2 again to proceed. I probably will ask them to allow us to order directly from their site, that way I won't get in the middle of the money transfer which sometimes can be sticky.

What doesn't it do: it won't reset your oil change interval light, check engine light or airbag light. I'm not surprise if they'll add that feature in the future, as other ODB software can do it.

All future software upgrades are free, as I understand but please don't quote me on it.

If more people like this one better, we can order them for $169.95

www.autoenginuity.com

Advantage: can reset oilchange, airbag, check engine lights as well as displaying dyno information (0-60, 1/4 miles,...)

We only need 10 buyers to get this discount.

Have you looked into this obd-2 program? www.digimoto.com

Cost is $109 before potential group buy price, vs the $225 msrp for the autoenginutiy tool. It seems like the functionality are very similar between the two programs (dtc code reader, reset check engine light, "virtual dyno", real time sensor display, etc). Autoenginuity supports all three interface while you get one interface for the digimoto tool. The digimoto tool seems to use an open source interface which supports many freeware obd scan tools - check out www.scantool.net.

If you guys decide to do a group buy on the digimoto tool, I am interested.

2 questions:

Is the AutoEnginuity tool only for the PC based interface, or will it include the Palm/Pocket PC interface as well?

Any discounts for their wireless interface?

I have sticky'd this thread as well.

The price is for PC software and interface (or PDA or Palm), not all 3. I haven't asked them about wireless discount, I will send them an email shortly.

Thanks for making this thread stick.

I've checked with the people who're in it already, they don't want to open up another option, as this would delay the group purchase.

The decisions were based on ODB-2 for price and AutoEnginuity for function. People who used these products say they worked well, nobody had mentioned Digimoto at the time . Sorry.

Please email me if you're interested in the AutoEnginuity product, which is now what the majority picks.

As of 6/14/04, we have 7 participants.

Thanks for checking. Have you found any independent reviews (from other car boards) on the autoenginutiy software? Please post links here if you can. Thanks.

Here's a review by Pen Computing
http://autoenginuity.com/dloads/PCM051_ScanTool.pdf (pdf file)

If you do a search on Roadfly.com, for "autoenginuity", there're about a dozen threads talking about AE tool, but none is a full review, but mainly stating at it's a preferred product compared to other scanners out there.

We now have 9 participants, with 2 unconfirmed, we only need 1 more to complete the group buy. If you've been looking for ODB scanner/data logger, jump right in.

Update 6/18/04

We have 10 participants now, the group buy will be closed this Sunday 6/20. This is your last chance to get in.

If you're a Bimmer nut, you'll need this.
If you work on your own BMW's (or other late model cars), you'll need this
If you track your car, you'll need this
If you mod your car, you'll need this (with all the Dyno data, you can easily tell how much your car improved with new exhaust, chip, cat, header,...)
If you want to show your friends how sofisticated you are with car technologies, you'll need this
If you want to impress that girl next door, you'll need this
Too many reasons to have this tool

This, how ever cannot measure the HP's increase that associates with the HUGE deck spoiler you just added to your Civic. Sorry.

Here's how the group buy works:

1. After we finalized the groupbuy this Sunday 6/20, I will then contact AutoEnginuity (AE) for a discount code then email it to all participants

2. Each participant will order directly from AE (phone or web), give them the discount code to receive special price. You have 48 hours to order before the code expires.

I think this method works best since it doesn't involve a middle man.

This Wed and Thu (6/23-24), anyone can call AutoEnginuity and order their product at group buy price, mention code "BMW GROUP BUY" when you talk to them.

Thanks all for participating in the group.

If I read correctly this can be used on an unlimited number of vehicals? In other words, I can use it with both my cars and share it with some friends as well?

Galun

Yes. Additionally, it seems to work for all three obd-2 interfaces out there. Ford and GM uses a different interface from all other vehicles.

2004 models will require the CAN enhancement though... I didn't need it, but I decided to spend the extra $59.95 for the enhancement for any future cars I may buy.
