My first post!

Just got in an early order for a Mineral Grey metallic s28i with the M sport package with one of the Bay Area (CA) dealers. Looking at around $35k (with heated seats, moonroof)... Unbelievable! My wife and I were considering a used 328i wagon for about the same price, and then saw that the X1's were about to come out.

Looking at around 4-6 wk delivery, I'll post more when I get more info. Yeah, it is an order sight-unseen, but we liked the wagon enough (with the 3.0) and this is gonna be punchier, better MPG and cheaper...

First BMW for me, first new car in about 15 years - exciting! :thumbup:

Congrats! Pics once it arrives! Can I ask how you negotiated? MSRP down or Invoice up?

Since we were in the market for an Audi too, I though the following comparison was interesting...

2013 Audi A3 (base plus servotronic transmission = $28750) 2.0T, 200hp 0-60 = 7.1sec, MPG = 21/30
Weight = 3296
Length = 168.9"
Height = 56"
Volume = 89 cubic feet
Luggage space = 19.5, folded down seats = 39

2012 Audi A4 avant (base = $32,500) 2.0T 200hp 0-60 = 6.5 sec, MPG = 21/29
Weight = 3814lb
Length = 185.2"
Luggage space with seats up = ?
Luggage space = 50.5 with seats folded

2012 BMW 328i wagon (base = $37,540) 3.0L inline 6, 230HP, 0-60 7.1sec (auto), MPG = 18/28
Weight = 3527lb
Length = 178.6
Luggage space = 25 cubic feet
Luggage with seats folded = 60.9 cubic feet

BMW X1 (base = $30,650) 2.0T, 240HP 0-60 6.2sec, MPG = 24/33 (est)
Weight = 3527lb
Length = 178.6
Luggage space with seats up = 14.7 cubic feet
Luggage with seats down = 47.3 cubic feet

Obviously this is with the 2012 328i wagon, so if you wait for the 2013 it should have the same 2.0T engine with similar specs. It looks like the cargo space in the X1 takes a hit versus the BMW, but is similar to the A3. Also, they stopped making the Avants, so you're looking at a 2012 if you can still find one new. But over all (minus aesthetics) it's amazing how good the X1 looks in comparison!

Are you tracking the arrival? I've heard that US deliveries are being held until Sept, regardless of build completion date, but not sure if that is accurate. I ordered on 7-9, production completed on 7-18 and is still waiting to board the boat! I saw one in St. Martin in May and another in Toronto in June and loved the look. Will be my third BMW (1999 323 and 2001 325 conv.) You will love it.

wow, I ordered it on 6-30 and it's still in production (didn't start production until last week). not sure about shipping, a dealer here ordered one for her daughter and was expecting arrival in August, but who knows. i've read that the website can be a few days behind, so maybe yours is actually on the boat - apparently the dealer ca get more up-to-date info . . have you asked?

you may already know this, but you can call 800-831-1117 and provide either your production number or the last numbers of your VIN and a recording will give you transport status. I did notice the BMW website was a few days behind the 800# status. My dealer was shocked that it went to the front of the line for production. From what I hear, customer orders will jump ahead of dealer orders. I paid $780 over invoice, which was the first time I did not have to pay sticker for an ordered BMW. Trading in my 2010 Audi A4 Quattro (which I really liked). Thought about an Q5, but got the loaded X1for a few thousand less.

Hey same here! Mine will probably be shipped on the same boat as yours, Jim, when the boat comes to pick it up for the transoceanic transport.

I ordered on 6/4 and it didn't go into production until week 29 (7/16); allocation was for week 30, so it just jumpped up a month. Mine was received at the port of exit on 7/25 but I have not been able to pick it up on any ship on the Wallenius Wilhelmsen fleet. Are the X1s bound for NA boarding ships on that fleet? Anyone able to track theirs to a particular ship?

I really hope they don't hold them for Sept delivery. What would be reasons other than EPA testing?

Call your CA. He/she should be able to tell you which ship your X1 is on once it ships.

Confirmed mine left port on 7-29. Dealer expects delivery on 8-14 (give or take) and said I will be the first in the Pittsburgh area to take delivery. Then someone responded that they will be held at BMW NA until official release date in Sept, but my dealer indicated that would not be the case. Not sure what is true. Don't see a reasone to hold it up, can only generate more people asking me about it and possible sales.

Do you know what ship/fleet it's on and are you tracking it across the ocean?

Hopefully the EPA is done testing the 2013 X1s, so there there wont be any delays and I agree that there shouldn't be any hold for an official launch.

Please keep us updated. I had not one but two dealers tell me BMW was not planning to release them until September. For the sake of the early pre-order customers, I really hope they got it wrong. It won't matter for me regardless, since I don't expect mine until September anyway.

Just heard from my dealer. They are being held at US port, but ONLY until August 17th, which is only a few days longer than I expected to wait anyway. Because mine is a 'sold order' it will be released before the others, and their BMW rep assured them I will have the vehicle in August. Hope that info helps.

here's an extra tidbit of info from my CA. I'm in CA so the info he got only pertains to the Western Region.

As of yesterday, there are 36 X1s in transit to the West but none actually on the West now. 186 have been produced but await shipping. I believe mine is one of the 186.
As far as we can tell my car has not been loaded onto a ship yet so I suspect delivery wont be until early Sept.

If you not already, try using the BMW tracking toll-free number, 800-831-1117. More up to date than the actual BMW website. Need to provide your Production Number or the last 7 digits of your VIN. This seems to be a day or two more accurate than the website.
