I have been searching the internet extensively for Sirius Satellite receiver to purchase. I am having a problem figuring out exactly what part number or numbers are compatible with my 2008 535xi, with iDrive. I have found a possible 3 to four part numbers that may work. How do I know for sure? This is a bit frustrating as I don't want to spend a bunch of money on a part and then be stuck with an expensive paper weight because the receiver is not compatible. I have tried realoem.com and saw various part numbers. Here is what I got from that website:
No. Description Supplement Qty From Up To Part Number Price Notes Photo
01 Satellite- radio 1 03/2006 09/2007 65209142850 ENDED

Then I called a used BMW parts store in California and gave them my year and model. The guy told me that they had one from a 2009 M5 (part # 6512919227302) that would work. This is so confusing. Any help out there?

BMW has changed suppliers and/or part numbers several times. Depending on the month of manufacture of you car any number of modules will work.

Try looking at www.penskeparts.com. I find that site to be more user-friendly sometimes then Realoem.

The new modules are ridiculously expensive, even for BMW. I mean, $1,300 for Satellite Radio, really????!!!

First I would double check to insure my vehicles is already wired for the satellite radio. If it is than 65129192274 (http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/65129192274/ES264845/?salesrep=JRiggsbee&utm_source=bimmerfest&utm_medium=forum&utm_content=JRiggsbee&utm_campaign=postreply) will be the unit you'll need.

65122232297 (http://www.ecstuning.com/?salesrep=JRiggsbee&utm_source=bimmerfest&utm_medium=forum&utm_content=JRiggsbee&utm_campaign=postreply) and 65122293408 (http://www.ecstuning.com/?salesrep=JRiggsbee&utm_source=bimmerfest&utm_medium=forum&utm_content=JRiggsbee&utm_campaign=postreply) both require cores to be sent in (your old satellite radio unit).

You will also need the mounting bracket 65106925468 (http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/65106925468/ES180435/?salesrep=JRiggsbee&utm_source=bimmerfest&utm_medium=forum&utm_content=JRiggsbee&utm_campaign=postreply) found HERE (http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/65106925468/ES180435/?salesrep=JRiggsbee&utm_source=bimmerfest&utm_medium=forum&utm_content=JRiggsbee&utm_campaign=postreply). Thanks for the reply. The sat part number you suggested is one that I knew would work. It is the one that the dealer quoted me at around $1200. My car has been confirmed by a BMW dealership to already have the sat prep.

@ECSTunning:
What does "cores to be sent in" mean?

A core charge is when you send in your old unit in after (or before in some cases) ordering a new replacement.

If the unit is old part is sent in before the new one is ordered there is no charge.

If the new part is ordered before the old one is sent in there is a charge, this charge is then refunded once the old unit has been received.

Who charges you, BMW?

In this case if the part is ordered from us then yes the charge comes from BMW, but we handle all the parts and logistics.

How do you tell if your car is prepped for this already?

Not yet. I looked at the website provided: penskeparts.com. It looks like the different part numbers provided would work as long as the date is on or after my car's manufacter date.
