I just picked up a 2008 550i with sport package and sport transmission on 7/9 and I have a question. If I put the gear selector in drive and drive conservatively the shifts are fine, but once I accelerate a little harder from then on the shift from 1-2 and 2-3 is harsh. Then it seems like it will stay this way until I stop and restart the car. If I move over to manual mode or engage sport mode the shifts are harsh, but that is expected.

By harsh I mean you really feel it.

My question is this normal?

My wife got a new X5 in 2008 and at the time the salesman said it would learn your driving and shift accordingly, is this what I'm experiencing? But to add to that, her X5 never shifts this hard.

Since the car is a CPO I'm going to have the dealership take a look just to be on the safe side but wanted to get another opinion.

Thanks!

Change fluid! My shop put redline ATF in and in a week shifting nice.Still hard shift if rolling slow and stomp on it.Try a learning reset also.

Read this thread before you take it in. Then you'll have all the ammo you need to get the Mechatronic replaced, and better yet, under your warranty.

I took a look at this LONG thread, and finally watched a video of what they describe as a hiccup or surging, this is not what I'm experiencing at all. Mine is like a hard aggressive shift into 3rd gear at odd times. The other thing I was looking at was year and model of owners and I didn't see any that were post 2007, I did not look at all the posts but I looked at alot.

Still, thanks for the information.

While searching that other thread I found this link, and it seems closer to what I'm experiencing

My dealership just called and said there was a software update for the issue, so once I get it back I will see if the problem is fixed or not.

Picked up the car tonight and it shifts perfectly! No more hard shifts from 2nd to 3rd.
