Painted my standard BMW rims black this past weekend. Used plastidip for ease and cost, awesome product. IMO gave them a really nice matte black look which is what I was going for. Really happy with the results and suggest it to anyone not looking to spend the money on powder coating. And you can always just peel it off if you wanna blend in again.

That looks good. I was thinking about getting my 124's powder coated to use as my winter wheels. I might do the plastidip now instead since I'll only be using them for 4 months of the year.

Why?Im starting to see 10 year old neons with black hubcaps.BMW with fad rims.BMW owners are not trend followers.

Plastidip is a good short term investment, or long term depending on how long you keep it. Protects the rims too which is always nice.

Everyone still knows its a ten year old neon though. And I got bored with seeing so many other 535i's identical to mine. I figured black was a good way to stand out while still keeping things the same. I understand people disliking it, I guess I am following the fad :/

Teej09, I like 'em. Bonus is black hides all that hideous brake dust too.

Just sayin', my wife can make my silver rims look like that in 50 miles of city driving.

Personally, I like the contrast of the silver painted wheels.

It is a neat mod though.

Brake dust was another great reason for doing it. As BMWFAN mentioned, driving around LA for the day pretty much does the trick. Hated how it looked when I couldn't get it washed for long periods. Now I can avoid the car wash for months and no one will notice ;)

^^^true. BMW wheels are usually only spotless for the 3 hrs after you just cleaned them. Thats why I did my X5 wheels flat black

Looks great Man! I just did the same thing to My X5 to switch things a little, did the wheels, grills and emblems in plasti dip, and my wife got jealous so I did her grills and window trim with it, it looks awesome! at 6 bucks a can you can't go wrong. I wanted to do her wheels too but that was a no no :( anyway here are mine

Quick question, did you use the matte black plastidip?

Also, I notice you don't have the orange indicators in front. Did you simplychange the bulb in your headlights to achieve that?

plasti dip black only comes in matte, if you want it shiny, you will need to buy plasti dip glossofier and apply it after the matte dries, depending on how shiny you want it, the more coats applied the glossier it will be.

Very nice. I was thinking of getting a whole seperate set of rims for my E60 to do this, because I love the contrast of the silver and black on the car, but also love the stealth look of all black. I might consider this though. And though it may be a bit of a fad, its not like he did this to his car.

Im a bit of a BMW purist myself and disapprove alot of what people do to their BMWs that BMW wouldnt do themselves. He still has kept the class look with the stock rim, just with a more aggressive color. And he can just peel it right off if he has to. This is far better than just thinking a neon looks better because it has BMW branding on it.

Singhe60 - I didnt do anything to the headlights. Had never noticed it till now, but it looks like part of the update between the 07-08 5 series included deleting that orange indicator. So my headlights are stock. Now the blinker is solely located above the headlight. Now that I notice I'm glad BMW made this small change, gives the headlights a cleaner look.

Mariana - thanks for your support. glad someone understands the position I'm coming from. and plastidip is the way to go if you wanna check out your rims in black

I agree; however, my 528 is 08 but has the orange. Perhaps they only started the change on 535 and above?!
