I'm preparing to order an M Sport, and I suddenly find myself questioning my interior color choice. I had been firmly set on the Coral Red Nevada leather, which looks to be just about the right shade to me based on the photos on BMW's website.

But then I came across this gallery in another thread. (Sorry - I can't figure out how to insert the photo.)

That looks too bright to me - like "safety red" bright. Could it be a camera setting, lighting or both? Has anybody seen the Coral Red in person? I need some reassurance I won't need welder's mask to open my car door.

Reason#3, or is it #10 by now, for why I have cold feet for doing a pre-order.

I don't think I have EVER seen any car that looks so RADICALLY different based on the camera angle or time of day or lighting or location or...

If it were a comic book character, it would be named "Two Face Car".

I really want to pre-oder it, but for so many questions and facets, I feel I need to see it in person.

Last year in Italy, I rented a Fiat 500 at Torino, when I should have rented an X1 from Munich. But who knew.

Personally, I feel I will like the Coral Red leather. I feel it will look between the darker BMW promo pic and the garish flash-induced bright extreme red in your found shot.

My biggest worry is that the N20 will not have punch enough for me, that it will be Japanese boring. Second worry is how smallish will it look. #3-#10 are all these extra similar soft issues.

And this from BMW's media gallery seems to split the difference . . .

It's definitely not as bright as the pictures from Autoblog review. I'm guessing this is the most accurate representation.

It's pretty bright, definitely not like the configurator, just find a 1 series that has the coral red interior if you want to see it in person.

Thanks for the link - that helps. I already tried finding one to view in person without luck. I visited two dealerships, and both admitted they tend to avoid putting "odd" colors on the lot out of fear of them not selling. Unless they happen to have a customer ordered vehicle awaiting delivery, they typically won't have something like red in their inventory. The one dealer had a sample swatch, but it was too small to really draw a firm conclusion.

Yikes, the pics from "Autoblog" look too bright. Too bad, I really liked the way they looked on the first picture you posted.

I also would expect that BMW would not release a color that garish without calling it fire engine red, coral red denotes some sense of refined subtleness to it.

You are right it screams at you, it should come with a warning label "Avoid prolonged direct eye contact".
