Hi,

Does anybody actually know what the 'Ti' in 318Ti
actually stands for?? I've been trying to find out for
a very long time!!

Thanks :)

"T" for touring and "i" is the same as the rest of the model lineup; fuel injection.

wrong touring. it's a 318"Ti" not 325"iT" :dunno:

wrong touring. it's a 318"Ti" not 325"iT" :dunno:Still uses the same letter. Just like the current 3 series compact although the T is in a different position . . . 325 compact = 325Ti, 325 wagon = 325iT. Also the badging on the compacts actually has the T on the car (i.e. 325Ti) while the wagons just have the regular sedan badging (i.e. 325i).

THe ti stood for Turismo Internationale in the case of the 1600ti and 2002ti. I think the ti moniker in the 318ti name was meant to evoke this designation. The more logical deduction might be "touring injected", but I don't think that's what was meant in the ase of the e36 and e46 ti. In the case of the 2002tii, the extra i was added to denote "injected" or "injection".
