And original-equipment auxiliary-in :( Hopefully these features will be on the new 3er too :)

Wow, this does look pretty good. I can definitely see myself purchasing one. Too bad I'll never get the chance to unless I move out of the country...
Could this be the next 3-series? Handles well, looks good, interior seems nice (for the most part, and especially when compared to the recent interior trends). If BMWNA brings this to the US, I could see it supplanting the 3er as the most popular BMW model within the first or second year.

That's what my leather seats look like now...
If they offer Alcantara/cloth in the US, I'd put down a deposit right now, despite lacking the funds. Heck, I can always rob a bank. Or maybe hire that NJ high school kid to act as my banking official...
Judging by the pics the interior plastics look just as cheap as those used in the X3. I suspected they would be, but hoped maybe there was a chance they wouldn't be. Oh well...

Really? Save for the trim, it looks like a 3er interior. :dunno:

Ooh, just noticed in the Aux-In photo. They have a 12V socket there :)

What is the Aux input for?
Interior looks pretty good to me. Heck, it's got bj lights. :p
I'm interested.

There's also a cupholder... I thought AG didn't put cupholders in the Euro-spec cars and reserved them for only us Americans. :D
Maybe we're will be getting it...

Why do all these 1ers have the same wheels?
(and I'll ask again, what is the Aux input for?)

The Aux Input enables you to plug auxiliary devices, such as MP3 Players.

I just spoke to a dealer who went to the Copenhagen launch.
Dealers from across the world were invited to this launch, where they all drove the 1er and compared it to other cars present at the launch (Alfa 147, Mercedes A Class, Audi A3, Golf). They drove all the cars in the segment and the dealer assured me the 1er was the best of the batch and leaves others miles behind.
They were also driven around a racetrack in the 1er by ex racecar drivers.
They also were given crash demonstrations, shown detailed safety features of the car, and basically eat, drank and slept 1 series for those few days (3 days I think).
I think I wanna become a BMW dealer, free holidays yearly, courtesty of BMW. sweet.

So is this a good indication of what the new 3 series interior and front end will look like?

I would speculate that the X3 is a better indication.

I hope not. The 1 series is an instant winner. People will love it. The X3 is not really noticeable.

Anyone else notice that it appears to have dual zone climate control.

Check the A/C display. It's showing two temperatures.

Uf, hard to see in that picture, esp on an LCD screen. I'll just take your word for it. :)

I noticed that the engine is *way* back in the bay. Good for weight distribution, but it looks like you'd really have to squeeze to replace the back plugs and/or coils.
Otherwise, wow. Too bad they won't bring it here. Too bad that people think that BMWs have to have 6 pots and be luxobarges. :(

This is how the E46 fours are set up too - remove all that plastic panelling at the front of the engine bay, and you can practically stand in between the front of the engine and the radiator.
This also clearly shows that BMW is serious about a six-pot engine in the one, even if a six might not end up in the five-door variant. A twin-turbo, 272 bhp, 413 lb-ft 135d might be fun, if a little nose-heavy :).

What's the second slot for (below the CD player)? And where's the audio display?

Second slot is for DVD Nav. Audio display?.. hmm.. maybe its between the speedometer and tachometer like audi and merc?
Edit:

In this picture, it looks like there's the I-Drive screen without the DVD Nav...

I would say the audio display would be part of the screen that pops out of the dash- much like current nav-equipped cars.

Overall, I really like the 1er. Looks like BMW has finally gotten a car right. Also glad to see they didn't do that stupid double bubble dash like on the 5er. Although I wish they'd delete the NAV screen + I-Drive controller on non-NAV cars... so people atleast have an option of whether or not they want to deal with I-Drive.
