Has anyone herd of a 2002 325i being turbocharged? For that matter any E46? I have seen lots of superchargers but no turbos for sale. I am sorry if this is a noob question. :dunno:
Thanks for any input

I've heard of one turbo. Try this sight: http://www.atpturbo.com/root/monstermate/bmw3ser.htm

Holy crap...400+ rwhp :yikes:
That's got to be 70+ more than a supercharger.
I have friends in the automotive industry and they both say turbos are better than superchargers. What do you think? :dunno:

I don't agree. Superchargers won't approach the peak HP numbers you'll get with a turbo, but that's not the whole story. How the power is delivered and the reliability of the system and its effect on the engine/driveline is more important IMO. Turbos bog down the engine at low RPM, then come on like a lightning bolt, ready or not. Superchargers power delivery is much more linear and smooth. Also, superchargers for 330's run about $6K while turgos run about $10K.
I'm considering the Active Autowerks (http://www.activeautowerke.com) supercharger. A good source for basic info on forced induction systems is on the www.my330i.com website: all about boost (http://www.my330i.com/boost.php)
Oh yeah, the AA Tuning supercharger should get a 330i to 335 HP and 320 ft/lbs torque. Not too shabby...

I checked on one of the websites for turbos and it said the 330 turbo that delivered 400+hp goes for $4995.00

400+ at the wheels still beats 335, probably from the crank.

Both superchargers and turbos can add substantial amounts of power, but usually at the expense of engine longevity. I have followed Car & Driver`s "Supertuner Shootouts" for many years, and would estimate that about 95% of forced-induction cars break down before the test is over. Two exceptions are cars from Dinan and the late John Lingenfelter, probably the only two shops I would consider for such a modification.

Yes, 335 was at the crank, which, if you've ever driven a current M3, you'll find is some serious push. 400+ at the wheels for $5K? Great. Until your engine blows and you're f@cked... What I read about superchargers is that they are extremely reliable, on par with a hammer.
Supercharger hands down for me.

Another plus with a supercharger is the stock drive train can probably handle the power. Turbos can put out more, but upgrades in the drive train may also be required (recommended).
