Awesome! Midnight blue has some really nice hues. Coral red is also a very nice combo with the blue. Thanks for the pics!

Sharp! Thanks for the pics. I'm going to assume you won't see that color combo very often, so your ride should be pretty unique.

In typical fashion, it looks like the dealers are playing it safe and ordering black or white over tan or black (search Autotrader and you'll see what I mean). At least by offering so many trim/appearance packages, BMW is giving us the opportunity to be different. I can't wait to see the Le Mans Blue in-person.

Wow! Great job on the pics! Now I'm REALLY excited because my Midnight Blue 2013 X1 is due to arrive early next week. I love the color!

I went black nevada with the interior, so when I get mine I'll post pics of mine so everyone can get a perspective on a different interior.

This color definitely looks different in various lighting, which I think is very cool. Thanks Jim for the pics!

Glad you like. Interested to see how the black interior looks.

Just got a call from my insurance company, State Farm. They have no record of a BMW X1 model existing and cannot match up my VIN. Hopefully nothing is wrong and it's just some delay in information.

Oh boy - I'm sure I will face the same thing late next week. I'll tell you how it goes with GEICO. I'm not really that surprised. Even the BMW dealerships don't show X1 on some of their screens (like the finance modeling screens).

I think we'll face some bumps here as this car has been in the US for all of 10 minutes.

Imagine how much fun we'll have if we need to get something fixed LOL.

Looks great. That color didn't look so good on the website. Much better here. By the way, no privacy glass for the rear windows?

JIM2013X1

Privacy glass not an option, however, stopping on my way home at a local detail shop to get a price on having it added on the glass rearward of the B pillar. A little hesitant on aftermarket, but from what I understand is as good as factory these days? Anyone know for sure?

It is what it is I guess. I am not interested in aftermarket add on. Is there at least side window shades?

JIM2013X1

No shades and don't think that was an option either. I could always put pleated curtains up like my Grandfather did on his VW 412 wagon back in the 70s!!

Haha. I hope it's not a deal breaker for my wife.

The shop and the individual installing makes a huge difference. Look around various sites that cater to people in your area and see who is recommended. Remember, anything aftermarket is technically illegal, but if it's light, it shouldn't be a problem...

BTW - Nice looking car!

Thanks,
dr

So - as I await the arrival of my Midnight Blue 2013 X1 the key questions I have from all the blogs (including this one) are as follows:

(1) How does the steering handle at low speeds (because I don't have the sevtronic option) because it may be rough at lower speeds, so I will see how that is.

(2) I am transitioning from my 2008 v6 Infiniti Ex35 which produces 297 HP but awful gas mileage to the 240 HP 2.8 engine on the X1 - the test drive made me feel like it will be a seamless shift to that power of a BMW engine as well as better gas mileage but we shall see.

(3) The IDrive and Nav system - it looked complicated so we'll see how long it takes for me to get comfortable with that combo of the dial near the stick as well as all the menus of the nav system.

(4) RFT - I haven't read a single positive thing about these stupid tires so I will learn the hard way I'm sure how ugly these are because of the potholes in New England but I'm hopeful they're not as bad as I have read because I'm not going to change them.

(5) Look and feel - becaues this car is close to the EX35 in size dynamics I doubt I will have any surprises like other people will because it's similar if not a little roomier than the EX35 in some spots, and it doesn't have an ugly blindspot like the darn EX.

(6) No rear camera - bummer because almost NONE of the incoming inventory has the driver assist package with the rear package which is what I wanted but not going to happen. I have it on the EX35 and I think I will miss it - we will see.

Those are just the questions I can think of at this point. JIM2013X1 let us know how you feel about some or all of the above when you have time as you take your beauty out for a ride. I am absolutely PUMPED to get my car!

Thanks for the pics! As of now, this is my first choice in colors and glad to see that it doesn't match the website. How would you compare/describe it to Deep Sea Blue? It looks pretty close to that in your pictures. Thanks again and congrats!

I can give you my two cents after driving for 3 days (guess really .01).

1) Steering at low speeds handles well. I'm comparing to my last ride, Audi A4 Quattro. There is a noticed driver/car interaction and I like the fact that I feel like I'm in control of the steering instead of being able to do it with one finger.

2) I went from 211hp to 240hp, so for me, this was a increase, unlike your case. If you notice the decrease as much as I noticed (and welcomed) the increase, it may take you a while to get used to the lesser hp.

3) The IDrive is proving to be very user friendly. This is the first car I've had with anything close to that type of feature and I think I'm coming along well. Plan on taking some time this weekend in the driveway becoming more familiar with all the features. I do like how the knob turns with a solid silent 'click' (for lack of better word). Feels very well made.

4) Pittsburgh is probably the pothole capital of the Northeast, but I've managed to avoid them so far in years past and plan to do my best ongoing.

5) Size for me is perfect so far. Very rarely will there be more than two people in it at a time, but even if back seat is used, I feel I can still keep my preferred front seat adjustments. I can't remember ever hauling anything that would not have fit in this cargo area, and if needed, that's why we all have that one friend that still drives a pickup!

6) I have never had a back-up camera before and I am loving this, so I think you will be disappointed giving it up. Also love the parking sensors. Going from my Mercedes to the Audi, I gave up the auto-dim mirrors, automatic lights/wipers, and regretted it every time it rained or some idiot came behind me with the high beams on. Big part of why I only had that Audi for 2.5 years (bought off the lot) before getting the X1. Got all that back and more. This is my 3rd BMW and all three were factory orders. My feeling is if I'm spending this much, I'm going to get exactly what I want. I didn't pay for one thing I didn't want, and didn't give up anything I wanted in options because I was set on a specific color, interior, etc. Plus at $730 over invoice, dont think I could have done better buying off the lot from dealer inventory.

Hope this helps and you are going to LOVE your X1.

The Midnight Blue is one of those colors that really plays off the sunlight. To me, the Deep Sea Blue is a 'solid' color. The Midnight Blue will look blue at times, blue/green other times or a combo of both. Front may look blue and as you move to the rear, you see green hues. So far, I'm loving it.

Custom ordering is the only way to go when buying new.

Congrats on the x1. I see there are 18 inch Pirelli tires, likely RFTs. I have 17 inch Continental OEM RFTS on my 2009 335xi base model sedan. They seem to adequately absorb the road surfaces that can get to be pretty uneven in spots here in this 15143 zip code. I wonder if the 18s and your suspension is as forgiving. I'm also interested in the opening dimensions and floor to ceiling height of the back hatch. Thanx.

I can partially address this question, having driven the local dealer's X1 x28 without servotronic twice now (including once with the wife). Low speed steering is heavy but not onerous. Even the wife thought it was manageable. That being said, will likely order servotronic.

That must be LeMans Blue, the system won't let me combine midnight blue and the sport line.

It's not, you need M sport package for Le Mans.
You can get sport package with Midnight and Deep Sea Blue.

It has a greenish/teal tint in sunlight. Don't see any black in it so far.
