Does that mean no dipstick like some current MBs?

Correct Sir. The petrol engines doesn't have a dipstick.

I like 'em both. A lot. I was disappointed to see 5 and 6 roll out with the old key. And that oil level indicator ala 911 and E class is awesome, I check the oil level every time I start the car up... I really wish I had something like this on my M5, which does require me to check the oil level and top it off once in a while.

...unless the sensor goes dead, and it shows full when the engine is bone dry...
You know it's going to happen. It's a BMW sensor.

The same thing just crossed my mind. Why not both dipstick and the info display ?

what if you don't have NAV?

I don't know, that is what it said in the article. Maybe without NAV, it's in the OBC ? :dunno:

Don't E60's come with iDrive screen, even if they don't have the navigation option?
That oil gauge is cool. On the iDrive version I have, it has an option under Car Data for oil, but it simply says something to the effect "Have your BMW Center change your oil in XX,XXX miles." And that would seem silly to have no dipstick.

Yes, they do. The earlier models came without Navigation Professional, which was just arrow navigation.

I believe MB has had its share of problems w/ oil-level sensors. German carmakers need to learn that they're just not capable of designing and building reliable sensors. How often do we hear about bad camshaft positoin sensors, o2 sensors, etc. :tsk: I do like the idea of being able to check the oil level from inside the car, but I don't really trust BMW (or any other German manufacturer) to reliably pull it off.

Ok,
IMHO that interior looks and works GREAT for that class of car. Very nice clean and effective.
It's just to bad almost the SAME interior shows up in the 5 and 6 for THREE times the price.
