Dear Group- My local dealer informed me that we cannot expect there to be a one series in the US. He said, with authority, that it would compete with the mini and that it will not be available. And that one cannot get european delivery of a one series as it will not be released in the US. What do you all think of that?- Kevan

Well if it's true that we won't get a US 1-series, then it makes sense that you couldn't ED one since the car probably wouldn't be tuned to meet all the US emissions/safety standards right off the bat.

I think your dealer is saying that so you'll tell people and they'll buy minis or 3s. He's got those to sell. He doesn't have a 1 to sell anyone, thus it's smarter to say it won't happen. "Don't wait around for a car that won't come out here. but buy something I CAN get you now." Typical sales move.

I was helping a friend look at cars Tuesday and she wanted to drive a Matrix and Rav (she's opposed to anything european and wants something that will fit her dog easily). Well they didn't have a Matrix so the line was predictable: "You should buy the Rav. We won't get any Matrixes for at least two months."

With the 3 getting fatter and bigger in the e90 (most likely higher priced too), BMW has to come out with something in the mid 20s up range. The 1 was designed for just that reason. They may not release the sedan or wagon version but the coupe and the convertible seem likely. It's not like the 2002 was a failure.

Your dealer doesn't know squat. BMW hasn't made a decision on the 1 for the US yet, and probably won't for a while. But as far as we know, a 1 series coupe is planned for the US in late 2006 or early 2007.

I was thinking just the opposite. We'll get the 5-door, but that's it (I didn't think there was a sedan/wagon choice, they are all either 3 or 5 door). And so as not to compete with the Mini, we wont' get the 3-door. But what do i know?:dunno:

I'd love to see the 3-door hatch make it.

There was some thought that the 1er won't come until conventional coupes and sedans are introduced. Globally, the market in this class is 3 and 5door hatches, so it makes sense to start there.

But the 5door market is growing really fast in the US (Matrix/Vibe, xA/xB, Mazda3/6) with more coming (Honda Fit, Audi A3) so when BMWNA gets their heads out of their ass, it might make it here eventually.

I think it was BMW Magazine (one of the US magazines in Borders) that said they think the 1 wagon may actually beat the 1 coupe to the US market. That if the luxury compact wagon sales take off with the A3, they'll just bring it here.
A BMW analyst even said that they have to bring it here to stay competitive.

Sounds promising! Just make sure it doesn't have the M kit on mine. : puke:

I don't know why BMW is waiting so long to bring the 1-series coupe to the states. Although there hasn't been a production version shown, its pretty close to being finished as spy photos have caught many test mules. 2006 or 2006 is 2 to 3 years away!!! Thats way too long to wait as by then the car will become a little stale.
