Hi
How long after the iphone 4 arrived did BMW release the adapter for it?

I assume they can make an iPhone 5 adapter, what with it being bigger and all..

Anyone happen to know when/if this will be available any time soon?

Cheers

You can buy an adapter from apple to go from the big plug to the new one.

The adapter should be all you need to get it working with the ipod systems in our cars. Some newer BMW's use the "iPod Out" feature, which enables "display mirroring" (I don't know what that means), which will no longer be supported via the 30-pin adapter.

Where can you get one for the iphone4? Does it cost an arm and a leg?

BMW

The snap-in adapter is just a cheap plastic carrier/interface which enables the car kit to connect to your phone. They have different versions for the most popular phones.

It's not an expensive part.

So, it connects the iPhone so you can make calls? I have an original iPhone that I use as backup (unlocked, prepaid SIM) and for music, but I have my real phone connected via bluetooth. I hadn't realized that my car is equipped with the iPhone dock. At least it will charge but I can't connect it to the AUX when it's in the dock.

Well, depending on how good you are with a soldering iron, I don't see why you couldn't take the audio pins on the dock connector to the aux plug via a switch..

pin2 = GND
pin3 = Right
pin4 = Left

you would need to switch pin11 to GND to force the phone to output the audio on the above pins..

I would wire it so that a simple switch would forward 2,3 and 4 to the aux connector and short 11 to 2.

With the switch in the opposite position, route the original bmw cables to the aux..
