I went to a bunch of VW forums, and am shocked at the amount of Touareg problems

Good thing I checked the forums. I was all ready to "get one" ...

VW... Sadly enough, it seems to be that way with many of their vehicles :tsk:

I read an article a while back, don't know if it was internet, newspaper or magazine, that was discussing this very issue. VW North America has been fighting with VWAG to get a handle on the problem with little success. In desperation, one of the new appointed CEO's at VW NA gathered a crack team of engineers, cleared a section of warehouse, and COMPLETELY dissasembled a Golf and spread the parts out all over the floor. They ran an analysis of the top major issues that owners have brought their cars in multiple times. Based on the results on that analysis, they are going to go through each one and develop a solution and/or determine the root cause.

VWAG is supposed to do this, but VWNA was so tired of loosing customers, sliding sales, and pissed off owners, that they took their own action.

...but these don't sound any different than the newbies who buy a BMW then complain about all the problems their cars have.

I think only Toyota is truly immune to this.

Sometimes I wish I did. Lots of happy customers and almost no call-backs.

I have driven a few Corollas, and I nearly died of boredom each time.

The tintop MR2 is on my list of cars to drive, ja. They do look like fun - for a tintop. ;)

Yeah, I remember reading this too. BMWNA should do something similar-- although I guess they're nowhere near as bad as VW. Still, there must be some brainiac at BMWNA who could figure out a better way to build a window regulator.

I have a 2004 Touareg (wife) and a 2004 Passat (nanny) and have only had issues with the T-reg. Overall it's a good vehicle, but not the same quality as my 2002 e46 touring.

V8 Touareg (no gas suspension)

Tire pressure monitor

Interior dash and shifter trim comes unglued when the car sits in desert heat

Front suspension has rattles that seem unusual (compared to my 325xit)

Keyless/remote entry system was fickle until a technician finally was able to fix it so that any door/rear hatch opened when you approach.

Finally, the rear seat folding is a total PITA. You have to lift up the seat, while simultaneously remove the headrest, all the while lowering the seat back, then you have to replace the headrest. The problem is that the headrest insertion bracket on the seatback gets broken if you let the seatback drop down too fast. VW did give me new parts for that, but it's a pretty poor design; especially compared to the ease of lowering my 325xit seats.

VW in general are nightmares.

OT, I have been surfing some Acura boards. It appears they certainly have their share of problems too, but most forums consist of people complaining anyways.

I agree. My Tundra is perfection for what it is.
