Safer? Ramps.

But keep in mind we're splitting hairs on such a question. Stands, properly used, are very very safe.

However, for what you want to do, ramps will serve just fine. Only if you needed to take the wheels off for some reason would ramps be out of the question.

I used to have a pair of steel ramps many, many years ago. Everytime I used the ramps, it was a struggle. The ramp(s) would try to skid on the (smooth cement) garage floor while I tried to drive the car up on them. I haven't used "ramps" since (in fact, I threw my old ramps away when I moved). How do Rhino ramps behave in this area? Does anyone have "skidding" problems with Rhino ramps?
Thanks.

Rhino Ramps will skid on smooth concrete unless you put a piece of anti-skid sheet (the soft meshy stuff you line shelves with) under the tall end.

If you are leery of jack stands, you can always jack the car up and then put the ramps under the wheels and let the car down on them.

so with ramps the only diffculty is getting the car on them without them slipping? and after you get the car on it it should not skid while your under it?

any other safety precausions that i should take if i use ramps?

thanks

Rhino ramps are great. Front wheel drive cars they work fine with, rear wheel drive cars you need to make sure the ramps won't slide. Someone else here suggested the anti-slip stuff. THat sounds like a good idea. I am going to try that next time.
Pep-boys usually has the rhino ramps on sale for 18 dollars. I don't think I have any other tool that is used as much as the rhino ramps.

just the tall end is enough ? sounds like a great idea. I used to use 2 2x4's to hold them away from the edge at the end of my garage. The anti-skid sheet sounds even better.

on an even surface the car will not skid off the ramp. the part where the tires are on is flat.. Just make sure your car is in gear (or park) and the e-break is on.
I feel very safe using the rhino ramps. Just buy them and you will know what I mean. Great tool

I measured the length of my Rino rams and went to Home Depot and bought rubber backed indoor/outdoor carpet and cut to length. I then put the carpet under the ramps, rubber side up, and drive right up with no slip.

I would say 4 good quality stands on a level surface would be safer than ramps. Race teams use stands.
